This is what you want if you can afford 80 quid:
    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/orange-san-francisco-android-2-1-wv/763425

Unlocking to any network is free.

I would then pair it up with something like this:
http://!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/vodafone-alcatel-ot-380.html (mobiles dot co dot uk) with the 17 months free by redemption for 100 minutes and 500mb 18 month tariff plus go through topcashback for £40 cash back.

Sell the alcatel phone for 10-20 quid and your net cost over 18 months is about 50 quid.
    I think....

Bluetooth means you can legally use your mobile whilst driving. Hands free and if you've got a smart car you get the call lists etc displayed on your car display screen.

You could charge a car by plugging it into a socket in the car, but bluetooth is wireless so you can't charge it bluetooth-ly. (Though no reason why you couldn't charge and bluetooth at the same time.)

That all just went WHOOSH over my head.
Unlocking is a phrase I don't really understand
Your url was obliterated with !!! signs
Not sure what redemption means in context

It's all lost me I'm afraid.

When I'm driving, the one time a year the phone rings it doesn't get answered.

    I couldn't drive and hold a coherent conversation on a phone .... I can't multi-task.

    Council tax is 2%?

    Drinks are on you :D

Just worked it out and it's 2.08%. I feel self-conscious now! We're oop north though, so we probably don't pay as much as the southern lot who have to keep their council workers in trendy glasses and lattes.
EDIT: By the way, if anyone can recomend a smartphone that doesn't need charging every day should you use it for an old fashioned voice call for half an hour, I'd be all ears.

Tried 2 now, both I had to give up with, due to the battery being so poor. It was blamed on bluetooth being switched on and that I should switch it off to conserve battery. Made a total mockery of the phone being useful, as I needed bluetooth for the car.

The batteries on smart phones do my nut in. I've kinda got used to just charging it everynight and turning off the 3g whilst I'm at work, but if I ever forget to do one of those things then I get caught out the next day. Can't someone work out how to put a better battery on these things? I'm sure a had a Nokia around ten years ago that I'd only charge for an hour or so once a month. It's probably in a box in the garage somewhere still with one bar of battery left. ;)

Using the radio on a mobile is the main battery draw, that's why bluetooth, wifi and actually making calls kill battery life.

Not much we can do to get around that, most people using phone handsfree in their car plug in to lighter socket I think.

The FT Blog had a good piece on this:

    http://ftalphaville.ft.com/blog/2011/03/15/514911/homo-britannicus-inflatus/
Sparkling wines are also being added due to their increased consumption, showing that despite difficult economic times, people still want to enjoy themselves
Where ‘people’ = bankers and the middle class, presumably.

After all, smartphones (Blackberries = bankers), smartphone apps (Angry Birds = bored bankers), more types of TVs (32″ = inadequate bankers) are also in, according to the ONS........

But seriously: if the poor are under-represented — there remains little recognition of housing and rent costs but lots and lots of mildly deflationary tech import items – just how visible is an already sketchy UK inflation outlook going to be now?

It is a serious problem that inflation is an average yet nobody is average. The more rich and poor incomes and lifestyles diverge (an ongoing trend in most of the industrialised world for the past 30 years), the less these averages will represent the real change in cost of living for real people.
