Generally, my council tax is about 8-10% of my income. I don't use most of the stuff in that list.
I'm jealous of his 2% on council tax though!0 -
And as for contract costs - I go cashback so pay about minus £2 per month (inc quidco) for 600 mins unlimited texts and 'unlimited' data - can't understand why anyone would pay to have a phone contract.
I don't understand how to do this....can you tell me, may on the NP thread to not clog it up here? Maybe this is something I should be doing?
OK....another good use of the smart phone, DH's consultant used it to calculate the percentage of his skin covered with psoriasis. The phone gave a significantly lower percentage than had been estimated by eye by us or the consultant:)0 -

Wierdest reason for recommending a smartphone EVER!:DIt's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
I would put smart phones in the first catagory. For everything they allow you to do, they are remarkably cheap and pretty much everyone has one nowadays. They're not 'tat'.
The wife and I spend about 0.8% of our net joint income each month on servicing our 'smartphones', which I think is great value. Our council tax is over 2%, so I know which I feel I get better value from.
Council tax is 2%?
Drinks are on you
EDIT: By the way, if anyone can recomend a smartphone that doesn't need charging every day should you use it for an old fashioned voice call for half an hour, I'd be all ears.
Tried 2 now, both I had to give up with, due to the battery being so poor. It was blamed on bluetooth being switched on and that I should switch it off to conserve battery. Made a total mockery of the phone being useful, as I needed bluetooth for the car.0 -
this marks how significant virtual consumption has become and the next stage of capitalism where you don't really need to use raw materials to make a product / money - all very eco friendly actually. i'm a big fan of smartphones. a brief angry birds addiction was a bit of a waste of life but the calenders, mobile me facilities and some incredible apps are really great and even life enhancing. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0

Can't you charge while in the car too? My dad charges his every car journey and then rushes in side to connect the damn thing to his computer...all the time swearing at it.0 -

Yer, suppose I could.
But my old normal phone goes 4 days without charging.
Seems a bit of a step backwards to be constantly remembering to charge the phone.
The last one I had lasted the day, but was caught out when at about 2pm the next day I was at work and the phones dead. Tried it agian, and sure enough, one days worth of slightly higher usage than I would normally use, and by the evening I was having to plug it in to charge it.
Probably is the bluetooth, but my old phone hasn't the issues with it.
Was like one of those computer pet things, constantly nagging at you! "Give me juice, morrrre juice, I need juice". Just about sit down for the evening and away it goes, whinging at you again for more juice.
So I stuck with my trusty 4 year old phone ever since. Sold the smartphone to some mug on ebay0 -
I have seen that Rightmove have an app.... I can see I'd be randomly interested in looking up the price of various lovely looking houses when I'm walking past them (lovely looking = £600k to £5million).
Apart from that one, I've no idea about any other apps or what they do. Maybe I could find some new addiction......0
