oh I know that:rotfl:
but in all my years of reading and watching Thomas, I cant say I ever remember anything religious in the stories:p
maybe the OP would be better ranting at the Americanisation of the stories than anything else
its not like it used to be, you know0 -

I also need to add to my original post that Thomas et el were planning a party for the children which fits in with Christmas and snow maybe?!
Thomas might be religious per se but it was the hint that we can't mention Christmas for fear of upsetting people.
Isnt that the first thing the BNP and English Defence League say?
I'm not Racist just proud to be English? Anyhow moving on
Thomas the tank engine has never been overtly religous if the producers want to say Winter holiday then thats on them.
and on a side not what would it matter if they did have a train with a turban called Abdul? You're watching a show with talking trains but thats a step to far?0 -

Now, I'm all for embracing other faiths and religions but certainly not to the detriment of our own!
Let Thomas say Christmas and stuff the PC bods!
What exactly would be the problem with having a train which wears a turban? I agree that your response seems completely disproportionate and smacks of racism (and if it's not intended that way, then perhaps you should rethink the negative way you employ stereotypes).
I don't see how having a 'Winter Holiday' is in any way detrimental to Christmas - I'm pretty sure that Christians don't look to Thomas the Tank Engine for religious guidance. It's also worth bearing in mind that this is a children's television show - it's perfectly possible that they wanted to make it slightly vague to ensure that it could be shown at any time of the year, rather than making a Christmas special.
If there was any evidence that the makers of this show had wanted to refer to Christmas but had in some way been stopped, then I would have some sympathy, but you seem to be looking for something to be annoyed about, with little to suggest that it's anything to do with the increasingly misunderstood political correctness.0 -

Re a train called Abdul - if you'd bother to read children's book nowadays they all have a red haired kid, one with glasses, one in a wheelchair and one with a burkha/turban/headscarf just so all bases are covered and no one is left out! That is pc madness imo.
I live in a small ex mining village in the north east of England, in my sons school (less than 200 pupils) there are muslim children some of the lasses wear the headscarf some don't, there is a Hindu family, there is a boy who has to use crutches all the time and another in a wheel chair, there is also a little lass who has downs syndrome.
Ds best friend wears glasses and has red hair and he's friends on facebook with a little lass who used to go to his school and has now moved back to Malaysia with her family.
We are a multicultural country so why on earth wouldn't children's books reflect that fact.0 -

Just because the books were written by a Rev doesnt make them religious, any more than me eating a Chinese meal makes me Chinese:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0 -

And? not one of the books are religious and none of them have any sort of religious overtones.."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

I don't understand why this is 'madness'? Are you saying you would prefer your child to read books which don't show people with glasses, disabilities or red hair as well? Or is it only characters from other races that you object to? I would argue that its madness to want children's books to represent all children as identical.0
