I had a Winter Holiday in January. Winter does last for three months you know? Just because someone mentions the words "holiday" and "winter" doesn't automatically mean it's at Christmas.
Me thinks you may be ranting over nothing!0 -
Me thinks you may be ranting over nothing!
I don't, and children more than others will associate snow with Christmas. PC sticking its nose in.
I was once prevented from making a christmas doo poster at work because it said 'Christmas' on it. I had to change it to 'Festive'.
Incidentally I know lots of Muslim people who celebrate Christmas. Not in a religious sense, but in the giving and receiving of presents, and they certainly are not offended by the word 'Christmas'.
So who is offended? I often feel that the people who decide not to use the word are just playing it safe and imagining that people will be offended.
PS im not Irish but i will be getting right legless on Thursday!:beer:0 -
Hang on a minute.
The OP mentions it showed there was snow on the ground. No mention of Santa, Christmas trees or mince pies. So why jump to the conclusion that it HAS to be the PC brigade putting their foot down?
Whilst I agree that sometimes people err on the side of caution when refering to anything remotely to do with religion. People jumping up and down about something as trivial as this is just as bad.
I stand by my initial statement: Me thinks you may be ranting over nothing!0 -
And children don't associate snow with Christmas?0

Me DH and DD (2 1/2) were watching Thomas this am on Channel 5 Milkshake. All was well, she loves it (keeps her quiet) while we got ready for work.
Then - right at the end Thomas said to his friends ' this is the best WINTER HOLIDAY' I have ever had!
Now seeing as there was snow on the ground we can only assume he meant Christmas but in our stupid PC world, even Thomas isn't allowed to say Christmas for fear of offending the other faiths of the world. I said to DH it won't be long before a new train call Abdul is created complete with a blOOdy turban.
Now, I'm all for embracing other faiths and religions but certainly not to the detriment of our own!
Let Thomas say Christmas and stuff the PC bods!
PS - I'm not a religious God Squad person but this just riled me!
And since when has Thomas the tank Engine ever been religious in any way?:rotfl::rotfl::heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0 -
And children don't associate snow with Christmas?
I'm pretty sure they associate snow with Winter, first and foremost.
I bet if you asked 1000 children: "What's the first thing that comes into your head when someone mentions Christmas?" That snow would only get one or two mentions, with presents and Santa being the top answers, oh and maybe some may even mention Jesus (I wouldn't hold my hopes up though)0 -

well the stories were originally created by a vicar
but in all my years of reading and watching Thomas, I cant say I ever remember anything religious in the stories:p
maybe the OP would be better ranting at the Americanisation of the stories than anything else
its not like it used to be, you know:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0
