Didn't get to read the OP's post, but I suspect this is less to do with the PC brigade and more to do with overseas sales. In the US they do tend to say 'Happy Holidays' because Hannukah, Thanksgiving, and Christmas fall around the same time of year. Also, they will not want to preclude selling the show to countries which are non-Christian by having Christian references in it, though it would probably be dubbed anyway.

30 posts of rubbish until someone gets to the nub of the matter.

    Is the posters name significant?

Then - right at the end Thomas said to his friends ' this is the best WINTER HOLIDAY' I have ever had!

Now seeing as there was snow on the ground we can only assume he meant Christmas but in our stupid PC world, even Thomas isn't allowed to say Christmas for fear of offending the other faiths of the world. I said to DH it won't be long before a new train call Abdul is created complete with a blOOdy turban.

Now, I'm all for embracing other faiths and religions but certainly not to the detriment of our own!

Let Thomas say Christmas and stuff the PC bods!

PS - I'm not a religious God Squad person but this just riled me!

I also need to add to my original post that Thomas et el were planning a party for the children which fits in with Christmas and snow maybe?!

Thomas might be religious per se but it was the hint that we can't mention Christmas for fear of upsetting people.

Re a train called Abdul - if you'd bother to read children's book nowadays they all have a red haired kid, one with glasses, one in a wheelchair and one with a burkha/turban/headscarf just so all bases are covered and no one is left out! That is pc madness imo.

What exactly would be the problem with having a train which wears a turban? .

I agree with the OP in that probably 'winter holiday' is being used instead of Christmas, but like the earlier poster I also think this is to do with overseas sales and making it generic and understandable to children everywhere, rather than a over-the-top PC mistake. There's nothing PC about avoiding references to Christmas, most of the stories about this are apocryphal (made up) anyway, and where it has happened it's either because it really is a multi-faith event, or some misguided person is trying too hard.

PC gets a bad rap these days and I think it's a shame, and it's mostly because of people spreading made up stuff 'I read it in the Mail'. Think back to the 70s and how minorities were treated and referred to then. Thank god for the PC movement! But I guess the OP preferred the 70s when disabled children were almost always sent to institutions and so were out of sight, out of mind, and when all nice middle-class white children (apart from gingerhaired ones) were the only ones in books and films.

I think we all agree then, it's less to do with political correctness, more to do with Britt Allcroft's bank balance.

Think they sold it to Hit entertainment some while back. Which is why its not even a model railway nowadays.

The OP's big mistake was not posting this in Discussion Time. She'd have got loads of Thanks there.
