Apple Finance Agreement

Hi All,

This is my 1st post, just needing some advise...

So 3 or so months ago i bought an Apple Macbook at my local apple store. It costed £899 and i took out the agreement to pay over 4 years with Barclays (whilst in the store). A few weeks ago i had noticed that nothing yet had been taken from my account (was supposed to be £30 a month.

I got a call from the Apple store on Friday past saying that the credit agreement had not been signed correctly. They asked if i could come to the store to sign again, or post it out for me to sign and i would post it back.

Since i live over 1 hour from the store i said to post it out to me and it will be here over the next few days.

Question is... Am i within my rights to flat out refuse to sign and return the laptop?? Am I legally entitled to re-pay the loan agreement that has not been correctly signed? As I am looking to buy a house over the coming months, i could do with 1 less direct debit, but don't want to damage my credit rating if the agreement is legally binding?

Thanks
Maddy

I'm not a lawyer - so take with the pinch of salt it deserves!

If you offer to pay the full £899 up front, then I don't see how they can hold you to the credit agreement. However, I think you still have to pay for the Macbook somehow. You agreed to buy the Macbook, and you agreed to pay for it in a specific way - if there was some defect in the agreement about how you should pay for it, I don't think that takes away from the fact that you did agree to buy it and pay for it.

I see nothing to prevent you from trying to negotiate with Apple. However, you've had three months use out of the Macbook, and Apple won't be able to sell it on as new - so IMO it's not fair for you to get that use for free.

Why get it if you can't/ don't want to afford it? It is this type of credit spending that has got this country into debt. As for the agreement you would have to seek legal advice. You wanted it you got now just pay for it. be honourable and stay above the level that drags this country down.

Are you going to be back here in 6 Months saying "pfft, I could do without this Mortgage ball and chain , how can I stop paying those vultures and do I have to give the house back"?

Guys, im talking about the agreement, is it binding? Still awaiting the form to come in the post, very strange, i thought apple/barclays would deem this a matter to get "tied up" asap, maybe they have more important things on their mind than getting paid.

This is not what got this country into this mess, i never said i couldnt afford it, im a qualified accountant on more than enough to pay this off straight away if i wanted. What got the country into this mess was people taking out loans without asking themselves "can i afford to pay this back?", and me, the hard working tax payer now has to foot the bill while most of the idiots who caused the problem are sponging off benefits that me and many other hard working people continue to pay.

Incidentally, the CEO's and top level management of both Apple and Barclays take home ENORMOUS end of year bonuses whilst everyone else suffers.

I have morals, but im smart with my money, however this thread is not addressing either of those issues, the simple question is, am i required by law to re-pay a loan that was not correctly signed?

You're smart with your money, yet you bought an Apple Mac, and you're an accountant, yet you have morals? Crazy world we live in

I'm sure I'm not the only one finding it hard to believe a 'qualified accountant' would pay £1440 for a £899 laptop. Or even buy a macbook in the first place, overpriced toss that they are.
