I do feel sorry for the poor OP. If they don't know the other stories, then comments about dogs and campervans are going to sound seriously unhelpful and frivolous.

I think they mean that it brings to mind this thread:

and I had the same thought too.

I obviously spend far too much time on other fora where the wind-up merchant is pretty much a regular visitor.

I guess I should be impressed that two members with 7,000 posts between them haven't come across the expression before.

Aww...be fair. The guy is a solicitor, not a professor of the English language. :)

My spelling and grammar are pants, I already know this - you don't need to tell me. :o:D

I was just surprised! Maybe I am old fashioned, but he took it well.

    thanks guys for your replies.

Our solicitor franky couldnt believe it. It has come out that her nephew was organising everything and he is ill in hospital at the moment, hence he hasnt been there to cajole the thing along or confirm the arrangements with the nursing home. The solicitor has called the nursing home who do not have room anymore so we were directed to social services. We called the council housing dept and was told she has made herself voluntarily homeless so there is little to be done but Social Services said they could assist but they can only come out to the house next Weds to do a home visit and needs assessment as the nephew isnt in a fit position to make that decision. They also said that we shouldnt accept any rent and that we shouldnt distress her. Social services did ask us to provide a number in Australia for the Neice.

However, we went back to the house, well, we sat in the car and waited for her to walk back from the Wimpy and she then asked us who we were. We pointed to the sold board and said we owned the house and that were sorting out her living arrangements via social services. She said she aint selling her home and that is final. She said she didnt have a Neice in Australia and to stop harrassing her.

We called the solicitor back and asked them what to do next. Apart from legally removing her from the house which is an option, he said social services should be able to assist with a nursing home place for her. In the meantime we should phone BT and ask for the number that was dialled. I called them and they said I have to wait a couple of days before that call could be seen. Amazing.

We have moved in with my ucle who lives in a neighbouring village whilst we plot the next move. There is talk of a solicitor from her legal firm going round tomorrow to see her and explain the situation as they know her. He did suggest if she wasnt capable of selling the contract could be prejudiced, but as the equity release had been repaid it would be easier to sit down and talk it through with her. We have asked what our position is on costs etc as we have to store things.

Going back to work tomorrow as there is little point wasting holiday time doing nothing.

    Frustrated.

as you can appreciate, we know nothing of this old woman and she doesnt know much about it either. We are very much in the dark and quite rightly fearful of our money and dealing with someone who is a few sandwiches short.
  • If this is all serious then OP's solicitor should be throwing a very very heavy book at the seller's solicitor....
