Teacher secretly filming class.

I think every part of a school, with the exception of toilet cubicles should be under constant video surveillance. It would go quite a way to eradicating the majority of bullying and would be invaluable in actually assessing teachers' performance in lessons, because I think everyone that has ever been to school knows that OFSTED's little visits do !!!!!! all and actually are useless.
Very, very true. Would raise teaching standards.0 -
My sister is a teacher and she would not film children in any way unless authorised to by the head.
It makes me question how experienced this teacher is that she needs to film a disruptive class and play back to them how they are behaving. Surely she has had years of teacher training and should have learnt how to control and discipline a class without relying on a camcorder to shame the kids into doing what she requires of them.
What a daft way to carry on.
At last someone who's taken the time to try and answer my question and not take this as an excuse to decide my kids a little !!!!!! and that I'm somehow to balme for everyone elses kid's behaviour.
I think you're right sjc3, she does have problems controlling classes generally.
I've repeated this but I'll say it again I don't have a problem about the filming if it had been undertaken with prior permission form the Head although, one post has suggested, the head might be lying, yes and she might not.
Why do people have to get so personal, when all I wanted was advice?0 -
I don't think there will be any problem with legality if all guardians had signed consent.
It is a shame that she felt it was the only way she could get help with the problem of discipline (which I presume was the underlying reason). And of course, had the students known she was filming their behaviour may not have been true to type. Hopefully she will be seeking support from colleagues, who will see the reality of her classroom, and consequently things will change and learning will improve.
It is soul destroying to struggle with discipline...0 -
All schools and all classes should be filmed to protect the children and the teachers. Seems entirely sensible to me, well for state education anyway.0

Personally i wouldn't be comfortable with it, unless it's a centralised CCTV system with proper procedure followed then no cameras full stop - if there are behavioral problems then the CCTV i'd suggest is a requirement, but a camcorder/personal video device, no chance!Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

What exactly is that comment supposed to mean if my daughter's anything like me? So you know me now do you.
Well my daughter is like me and she's an A grade student and she wasn't the one in trouble about talking. I didn't mention this because it wasn't the reason for my question.
I'd genuinely love to know how you've worked out my character from a few lines, wow amazing.
The same way you did to the other poster.;)0 -
I've 2 kids in school, both excellent students and I cant see the problem at all. Its good for the kids to see the evidence of their bad behaviour, To be honest i think you are making a bit of a meal about it.Cogito ergo sum. Google it you lazy sod !!0

I don't think asking people's opinions is making a meal out of it, have I said, what, if anything I intend to do about it. I merely put the situation forward for debate. After all this is a forum. I think you'll find that some others have decided to add things which may have upset me, to which I am going to respond.
At the beginning of this thread I said I didn't want to go into detail, but I see that was probably a mistake, (given certain people's need to immediately slate the children involved), as there's a bit more to the background here and I did that to protect the Teacher.
As said I'm all for any measures taken to improve the learning environment that's got to be good for everyone, I simply wanted to know what the legal situation was, but thanks to those who tried to help.0
