Just been on the phone to NHS direct; am worried about DD as she really seems off. Waiting for a nurse to call me now.

If you are worried call an OOH GP or your local A&E. NHS direct are rubbish and will simply tell you to take her to somebody if they bother to call you back.

    Ditto that 100%

I rang them once, never again. I waited a couple of hours to be told what my gut instinct had told me all along.

I use the website to check things out and then go see GP/A&E as appropriate.

Thanks for your good wishes. Got a call back quickly; they said if she isn't better in 24 hours to call back but it sounds like a viral thing. I just hate to see her poorly; you know how it is. They did all the checking for a rash/head on chest thing and she's fine for that.

Flying wise, got chooks in, sort of did CBT homework, washed up and am just about to get the kids into their PJs. Then I'm just going to do some knitting and relax; don't feel like doing my ironing which I can always do tomorrow.

Seconded.. ring the OOH GP or take to A&E if she is very very poorly but NHS Direct won't ring you back and if they do they'll only tell you to ring GP.. probably in the morning.. They are a huge waste of money and should be got rid of and the money put into actual patient care.. they waste so much time while people who are very ill deteriorate or die in some sad cases.

It is part of the job of the GP to deal with sick people out of hours.. they get paid plenty for it and CHOSE to do that job knowing what it entails.. Give them a ring!

ETA as we cross posted.. meningitis is a 'viral thing' in a lot of cases, encephalitis, pericarditis, pneumonia (sometimes) flu, etc.. they can all kill you in a few hours.. obviously I a not saying she has any of those things just highlighting how stupid it is to diagnose a 'viral thing' over the phone. Trust your instincts if you feel she is ok at the moment just keep an eye but if you feel she needs to be seen don't wait for permission you get her seen right away! You are not wasting anyones time.
