Natwest: warning: card machine now required for payments & transfers!!

To my dismay Natwest now require you to have a card machine in your home to do payments or transfers.

This is really a pain - they never used to require this!
Even though the card machine is free from them, what do I want with another piece of equipment to clutter up my flat for something that I rarely do?

Tbh I have been with NatWest now for nearly 15 years and never thought I would ever have to complain about them but to me this just seems such a pointless measure.

Just thought I would post this as a warning to anyone who needs to do a transfer quickly: you will not be able to do it now without this machine or without going into a branch personally, so make sure you get your machine now if you are a NatWest customer to save any aggro!

Natwest have required the use of the card reader to setup payments for the last 3 years or so I think.
I've never had to use it for account transfers between my own accounts with Natwest.

They've done this for ages. You only need a reader to set up a new transfer/payment recepient

So if you only need to do it once (to set up the new payee) then that's even more pointless imo.

Tbf it's not as if I need to do this an awful lot but that almost makes it worse - I now need to have this piece of equipment in my place that I will rarely use.

I got one of the trial ones at least 3/4 years ago and thought it was a free calculator when it arrived!!

Never used it until last year when I needed it, had lost it so requested another. Easy to use, no problems.

Most banks now require this, its only the size of a small calculator and really adds security for your account.I ve got the barclays and nationwide ones, very easy to use.

They are very small and easy to use.

I just keep it on the bookcase in front of a couple of the books.

I have 3 one for my normal current account, one for the budget account and one for my company account. I've had to label them. They don't work in other accounts! Why can't I just have one for all 3 accounts?:mad::mad:

That's strange !!!!!!, I've got a Barlcays, an RBS and a Co-op, they all work on all the accounts. It's quite handy because I leave one at work, one in the car (you never know where you will be when you need it) and one at home.

OP, it's the size of a small calculator, hardly something that's going to clutter up your home, unless you're living in a minimalist showhome.

So your complaining that NATWEST have put systems in place to protect your money and reduce possible theft and mistakes.
