The Barclays version is annoying as once you get one you need it to log onto online banking. I told them to revert my account to get rid of the PinSentry thing as it means I can't logon to my account when out and about or abroad (who in their right mind would carry one of those in their wallet?!)

It's a pain as I have to phone them up to add a new payee.

If NatWest had wanted everyone to use this service why did they not send the machines out automatically when it was implemented? Or have an optional "opt in" service as I mentioned above (which would not need to come with such a disclaimer)? Just grrrr. Instead of just being able to pay my bill and get it done I now have to inconvenience somebody else for the privilege.

They did send them out automatically.

I have one and think they are a brilliant idea, for the simple reason that you can't set a new payee for transfers or standing order, since in the unlikely event my online login is compromised, they can't set up a transfer or SO without my debit card or debit card pin number.

Most banks now require this, its only the size of a small calculator and really adds security for your account.I ve got the barclays and nationwide ones, very easy to use.

Same here,Ulster Bank (division of NatWest) & Co-Op use them, although I've never received my one from the CoOp bank..

I like them, anything that helps protect my money and bank account is fine with me.

I think the customer should be given a choice if you accept it and use it you are protected against fraud etc..

If you don't want it, then if anything happens to your account, that could have been prevented by use and/or protection that the card gives you, you have no comeback and suffer all losses.

only good thing about them is that you dont need to use the specific 1 for your bank

They sent me one after I requested it, it did not work (yes I took the bit of plastic out) requested a replacement but after 4 weeks I'm still waiting.

I'd prefer one of those compared to santander and halifax security, and rapport for that matter.

You can access your account without it, just that the options menu is more basic.
    Gone ... or have I?
