Pedestrians in the street
I get a lot of pedestrians walking along my street. Not across it, but along it. I don't know why they do it because there's a perfectly good pavement on either side. It's quite an attractive street and maybe they're just admiring the houses. I don't know. Anyway it really annoys me, and I just berated a couple who were ambling along, and behind whom I had to wait on my bicycle while a car came from the other direction. They made no apology and protested that sometimes cyclists use the pavement. Stupid.
Anything I can do? The Highway Code says that pedestrians should use the pavement if there is one, but as far as I'm aware it's not a criminal offence.

You are probably best off being cheerful, saying excuse me and waving as you go past (taking care not to hit them).
Once the militant pedestrian realises that they are successfully winding you up, they might advance to the next level of awkwardness. (Stopping to read the map ... gazing into the middle distance ... etc etc).
Best wishes

Ride on the pavement, it is empty according to you.;)0

trouble is it's not always immediately clear that they are walking along the street as opposed to just getting into or out of their cars. But I like the chariot idea.0

It's the ....I've got as much right to be on the road as you" attitude, despite the fact they are pedestrians. Not sure what they're trying to prove though.
I sometimes experience the teenager that deliberately walks into the road to cross right in front of me, looking me right in the eye, and they often have a most malevolent expression on their face. May be something to do with proving they are stronger than you I suppose, but they don't realise that it says what pr**ts they are.
Then again, I'm hearing you saying, "I'm a cyclist and I've a right to be on the road. You're a pedestrian and don't!" Any difference?0
