    high performance diesel?? :rotfl::rotfl:

Winner of Le Mans 24hr was a diesel. Winner of 2009 British Touring Car Championship was a Seat Leon diesel.

My Mondeo TDCi 130 can just beat a BMW 328i on 30-70 acceleration.

It is if you have a vehicle that will benefit from it.

Old bangers clearly won't, but powerful cars and bikes will :)

I've just got rid of my renault Sport Clio 197 (2.0l 197bhp)

It stated in the fuel cap to use super unleaded only

i used normal unleaded. In the few times i tried higher grade fuel i noticed 0 difference

I doubt there is any noticeable difference between 95-97 ron and 99ron

The USA uses a ron that is far lower than ours, yet their high performance vehicles run just fine

I've got a 3 litre Z4 coupe, and the handbook recommends using super unleaded (although says that lower RON fuels will still be okay). TBH, there is a noticeable difference between the two - the pull when using normal unleaded isn't as strong as when using SU, and the engine generally feels slightly sluggish.

I've also noticed a slight improvement in MPG with SU, but not sure if it's enough to cover the additional cost of the fuel (in monetary terms - in enjoyment terms, SU is definitely worth it).

I had tried SU years ago when I had a Z3, and didn't notice any change, so some engines will show a difference, others won't.

    Oh yay.

Better tell Ford, they'll include it in their marketing material without a doubt :rotfl:

There is a time and a place for it though isn't there.

Trying to badger a customer into filling their car with a premium fuel when times are hard isn't the most sensible business choice.

I wouldn't have minded, but telling me my car would run so much better is pushing their luck

My cars got close to 160k on the clock. No amount of uber diesel is going to do it justice

Really? Or based on magazine quotes? I have a BMW 330d which autocar states can get from 50-70 quicker than a porsche 911 - but that's assuming both cars stay in top gear. In reality, a Porsche would quickly reduce me to a little dot in the rear view mirror!

With circa 200bhp you are starting to get to the point where you will notice the difference. If you added another 1-200bhp you definitely would notice the difference as the car could be mapped more aggressively to take advantage of the higher octane giving more power.
US fuel is apparently poor but then the ecu will have been mapped with that in mind.If the manufacturer knew they had a reliable source of higher octane fuel then they would be mapped accordingly.
When you start adding turbos its even more important with the higher cylinder temps. On times I've not been able to get SUL and had to use UL, the ecu dropped the boost by approx 3psi to which equated to approx 40bhp at the time.I definitely noticed that.SUL is more readily available(TY Tescos) now so I happily haven't found myself in that position for years.

I've tried the Shell VPower stuff, no better MPG for me than their normal diesel so not worth the money. I've no interest in better performance, other than MPG.
