MOT Advisory Notice question

I just passed my MOT.
Car details Toyota Corolla 05 plate with 78,000 on the clock.
Nearside front tyre worn closxe to the legal limit [4.1.E.1]
Offside front tyre worn closxe to the legal limit [4.1.E.1]
Can anyone advise how much longer I should drive this car before replacing the front tyres?

It's up to you.
Anytime from now, or until they get to the legal limit.0 -
They should also have told you how much tread you have left. You'll probably be Ok for a month or two but tbh is it worth the risk of going below the limit and getting fined (up to £1k per tyre), I'd get them done ASAP.Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those affected (Benjamin Franklin) JFT96...YNWA0

You need to have 1.6mm of tread in the central 3/4 of tread area, they can be bald on the extreme edges.
You can get tyre tread measures, from motor factors.
use a vernier scale (though if you had one of these I'm sure you would already know that) or
Use a 20p coin the band around the 20p coin is about 3mm.
From the edge of the coin to the top of the lettering ELIZABETH II D G REG F D is about 2mm if you can't see the lettering you know you're ok. But you need to use an old 20p coin 1992 or earlier because later, don't know when, they put the year on the 'head' side of the coin and increased the height of the letters, so you want an old 20p coin with no year on the 'head' side.0 -
Start pricing up replacements and once you have then go to the dealr and ask for his best price (he will need to encouraged a little) but you might be pleasantly surprised.
Mytyres have 5% off at the moment.0 -

it 3 points per worn tyre and £60 fine license wise, if both tyres exceed wear indicator limit and your stopped usually you get a replace one tyre advisory notice on your producer HORT 1 and take points on the most worn out tyre theyll get you to change for spare if in better condition and then let you go on your way.
they say you can be fined upto £1000 but i havent heared of the max fine applied.0 -

Your tyres are the only thing keeping you on the road. What does common sense tell you?
I change mine at 2mm at the worst. I don't let them get down to the minimum because you get a drop off in braking and cornering in the wet below 3mm increasing with severity as you get down to the legal limit.0 -
An abuse of the advisory system, did the MOT station sell tyres too?0

Why is it an abuse? As part of the test they have to advise what is likely to need attention before the next MOT.
Easier ways to get a sale for a dodgy tester than this.
They do this as people think once they get the MOT - that's it for 12 months and maintenance is not required!0 -
