Orange 3G Data Signal in London
Hi,
I just wanted to reach out to people here to ask if anyone has issues downloading from the Orange 3G/HSPA. So far, I have issues being able to download in Canary Wharf and Holborn.
The phone is able to connect to the network without any problem however it is miss-leading. You get miss calls and also the data never works. There are other people having the problem as well and it has been known to affect the Victoria area.

I was just wondering if anyone else has been affected in London as well, especially in the locations mentioned above or any other location. My handset works fine with no problems at my home in Essex, 3G/HSPA works flawlessly...
I know a lot of Orange 3G mast are down and not working and Orange are unwilling to give a date on when they will fix this. If there are other people affected, maybe we should all complain together and get it fix, as we are paying for a service that does not work 100%.

It's all to do with capacity, or a lack of it, there are alot of people in London, they are all using their fancy-dan smartphones at once, the 3g network only has a finite capacity, Orange are spending millions on upgrading but these things take time to implement0

If you were to look at an internal coverage map for London in 3G (and 2G for that matter), where green is a site that is active, yellow is a site down for maintanence and red it a site down, it is like someone has dumped a bag of skittles over the London area. It's shocking.
Canary Wharf has been bad for about 12 months now, and surrounding areas. Good news is that next month, when T-Mobile 3G (and Three UK) get fully integrated with Oranges network, you'll not have any issues anymore, as the load will be evenly spread, and T-Mobiles backhaul is substantially greater than Oranges.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -

I get this up here in East Yorkshire at my home. After 3 months, Orange finally admitted that the cell site covering my area is over-subscribed. Changing the phone to using GSM solves the call issue but then you're doing internet browsing at old dial up speeds.
They don't give a toss. If you can leave and move to another network I suggest you do.0 -
To be fair - the Orange & T-Mobile network amalgamation is supposedly bringing benefits of increased coverage and capacity. Whether it does for the complainant depends on their exact location and the available infrastructure. London has the densest coverage of any area in the UK. and all it takes is a relocation of a few meters to access a different chain of base stations with (hopefully) some spare capacity!0

This has been known problem for a long time, which Orange know about. The Register reported at the end of January that Orange has admitted to data outages, particularly in London, in recent weeks.
I find in parts of Canary Wharf that 3G doesn't even work for calls, let alone data. I have to disable 3G otherwise 90% of my incoming and outgoing calls fail.0 -
Yup I have to do the same and just use GSM. The problem is that the outage to these mast has been there for a long time. If the outage was out for a week or two it is understandable, but just to leave it and not do anything for 3-6 months isn't what you would expect to find from a company of this size.
I just hope the T-Mobile signal will help, but I can see it clogging there network, whilst Orange network is just left and never be fixed, that's the problem.0 -

Although I cannot confirm anything, read what has been highlighted and think of the "amalgamation" next month, and where it leaves the above afterwards....I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Yea, a more congested network where all Orange customers will be on T-Mobiles signal... T-Mobile customers will be hating it!0

All Orange customers are now on Everything Everywheres' signal
All T-mobile customers are now on Everything Everywheres' signal
My ISP is no longer Freeserve / Wanadoo / Orange ... it's Everything Everywhere0 -
First of all, only the GSM signal is being shared, not the 3G network and that will come in April, so Orange are not on the Everything Everywhere signal yet, it is still separate...
The problem is if all Orange customer in Canary Wharf for example is struggling to get onto the 3G network (when it is known only 1 3G mast is working), all the Orange customer will bombard the T-Mobile 3G network when sharing starts, meaning that the original T-Mobile customer might now struggle to even get onto their network that they use to have. That is the problem. The network is struggling to cope and it isn't helping when 2-3 of the mast in Canary Wharf has been down for 3-6 months. I am not sure on the state of the T-Mobile 3G in Canary Wharf, but if it is near to capacity then well we will be having no data at all.
The companies has to fix their infrastructure when it goes down and not leave it rotting... that is what is happening at the moment in London, and maybe else where...0
