I'm in shock!!

The title of the thread says it all really, this morning I think I had a miscarriage, I didn't know I was pregnant and had some light spotting for the last few days. This morning I woke up with cramps that kept coming and going- like mild contractions, and heavier bleeding, a couple of hours later I passed a greyish mass. I have never been in this situation and I don't know what to do? Do I go and see the doctor? My head is spinning at the moment and I don't know how I should feel.

it certainly does sound like you've had a mc :(

I think it's probably best you go to see your doctor to get checked out, were you due your period around now?

You're in shock. You need to go and see a Doctor to make sure you're OK. Please go and see them just to make sure.

That sounds very distressing. Hope you are ok.

I would see a doctor yes, and if you can bring with you the matter you passed. It may or may not have been a miscarriage, but the doctor should be able to tell by looking at what was expelled. If it was, you might need a scan to ensure that everything has been passed, and some further treatment if it hasn't. If it's something else, like a bad infection, then you probably need treatment as well.

I would echo what others have said and give the doctors a call asap.

    When was your period due?

OP, this happened to me at 17, and it turned out to be a miscarriage.

Please go and see the doctor. They will be able to confirm either way, and also offer you some contacts of people who can help (support groups etc). Also, is there a good friend you can call on, or your OH, or your Mum, Sister etc? You need someone with you right now for comfort and support. Trust me.

Thanks for your replies, I'm on the pill and had taken two packs back to back and was due to have my break in 10 days, I assumed that's why I had spotting. I have just phoned the doctor to book in for Tuesday.

Normally I would speak to my friend, but she had her baby last Sat at 35 weeks and baby has been poorly so don't want to burden her.

I feel like crying, but can't.

Tuesday? Did you tell them why you want to see the doc? If not, tell them and ask for an emergency appt today. Tuesday is not good enough.

This sounds so identical to what happened to me. Started with just some spotting at first, which wasn't uncommon for me mid-month, and then became very heavy and painful and when I went to the toilet, well, something was there that shouldn't have been. I saw the doc in the morning and she confirmed it.

What about OH, Mum, Sister, a trusted work colleague?

have you missed taking your pill at any time in the last few months?

Tuesday is a bit far away to be seeing the doctor tbh. If you can't get an emergency appointment do you have a walk in centre anywhere near you.

I would definitely go and see a doc or nurse. When I miscarried at 11+5 it didn't all 'come out' in one go, and I had to keep having ultrasounds to see if my womb was empty. It's because anything left in there poses a risk of infection. Far better to be sure. I went to A&E with bleeding, as I knew I was pregnant, and panicked. They gave me an appointment for the early pregnancy unit. I agree with others, Tuesday is too long to wait to be seen.

Miscarriage is a very emotional experience, whether you know you're pregnant or not, so take care of yourself and try and speak to someone about how you are feeling. If you need to cry, cry. It is a loss whether you knew you were pregnant or not xxxxxxx

  • Awh big Hug ((((((())))))))) look, it's crap but I consoled myself the same way by thinking that at least it didn't happen at a later stage. You will defo have to go to the doctor and they will ask did you keep what you passed (I had flushed it). I then had to go for a I think it was called a d&c - they check that there is nothing left over inside you that can cause infection/harm future fertility. Basically make sure you are physically safe and sound. Please do it because you sound like you want children in your future. I went on to have 2 children and yes -I still get upset about the miscarriage but I know it can be natures way.
You just have a good cry and if you have a partner/mum/friend - just tell them. You need a bit of TLC and don't be scared to cry.

    Take care.

ps I am with other posters - don't wait head to a&e - can anyone go with you?
