Rik - the Panasonics you specifically referred to was what I was asking about.

iconic & custardy - yes they're being updated for now, but what about after a few years. RE HTPC - you never heard of sleep? That's what your PVRs do!
If you've done your research and you want Viera Cast and the USB functionality go for it, they're great TVs!
well what features do you want? it has DNLA,iplayer etc
you cant expect manufacturers to keep updating and TBH as tech moves on it might even be the case the hardware isnt up to it let alone the software.
It wasnt a buying criteria for me as i have iplayer on cable,HTPC and various network drives, but it would do the job for someone out the box0 -
I've the LE40C650, didn't bother with an extended warranty, however when you register the set you'll get the inevitable letter from Domestic and General offering extended warranties at popular prices (well they like them).
It was £99, for three years.( 2years over the manufacturers warranty, with accidental damage)
Or buy from John Lewis and get the 5 year warranty thrown in.

Both JL and Fenwicks said to avoid this TV due to the sound problems0 -
Caveat emptor.
Go listen to some sets in a specialist shop. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
custardy - I don't know - it's in the future and I don't know what will come along. I've got a Mac Mini under the TV so maybe I'm a bit spoilt like that - what I'm saying is don't be blinded by whizz bang features if you're not going to use them. If you research and understand them, get stuck in!
Rik - Ah good. 3DTVs and LCDs - glad it's not the normal plasmas with the issues. Get back to me on 3DV when it's down to the same price with NO glasses!0 -

It is, the standard ones are 35ms (when they used to be under 16ms - which would be the safe zone)
Agreed on the no-glasses 3D tv though:idea:0 -

It worries me that your listening to what SALES staff in JL and Fenwicks have to say.
You're buying a flatscreen telly, they all have limited inbuilt sound capabilities.
We have the Samsung le40c750 and I have no issues at all. If you want deep and rich sound buy a sound system to go with your TV. This Samsung sound is a big improvement over our old Sony LCD. That doesn't mean its a general rule but listening to shop sales staff when they're not experts is really silly IMO!0 -

Silly? I think not.
Both people I spoke to were rather knowledgeable, neither actually tried to sell me any products, instead both offered me advice and offered me alternatives to the Samsung I went to look at. The person in Fenwicks told me to wait 2 weeks until all the brands had released their newest models. 1, so I'd have more choice, and 2, so the older models come down in price

geordie_ben wrote: »Anyone seen this TV in a shop that offers warranty? Or does Amazon?
Amazon do offer 3 & 5 yr warranties, which include accidental damage just search Warranty. Although you would need to check I believe you don't have to buy goods from Amazon, to buy the warranty.0
