  • Get a wooden peg remove the metal spring turn the peg over and stick the flat sides together. Repeat with another 5 pegs. Paint them all white or silver. (You could also put some glitter on the wet paint). Then stick the short ends together in a circle and you get a snowflake/star. It is not complicated just difficult to explain. Just lay the pegs out first and you will get the picture.
  • These look nice - if a bit fiddly! Sorry if the link doesn't work but this is my first attempt!

Each January I buy the cheapest crackers I can find (Last Jan, ASDA's Smartprice ones were knocked down to 40p for 10) I take out hats, snaps and mottos and use them to make much better crackers - toilet roll tube and pretty paper, glitter glue and spray paint etc. My daughter tells me she grew up thinking ALL crackers contained naughty knickers, funny socks, 'Lush' soaps or Body shop bath fizzers etc. Tons nicer than the plastic tat in most bought crackers!!!
what a great idea i bet your daughter cant wait until the crackers come out!!

  • SOme years we've stolen an idea from a pub we went to in Hayfield a few years back.

    1. Go on a nice countryfied woody walk. Collect all the big twiggy bits you ufind on the floor.
    2. Suspend from the ceiling with fishing line and telephone cable hooks.
    3. If you like, add fairy lights.
    4. Decorate with cheap baubles.

It's hard to describe, but the effect is absolutely magical. The kids love it and visitors are amazed. We do it in the hall so it's hte first thing you see when you come in.

I've seen rolls of Chistmas wrapping paper in plain silver, gold or metallic colours in several shops. Would that do?

Brilliant idea!! I shall investigate the xmas wrapping paper, as the theme this year is silver and white in the dining room, so have made paper chains from a4 white paper and shall now do silver ones, crackers are lesft from last year and will go from there! thanks for the idea's.

  • A nice idea is to use pine cones, the larger ones are best - mine came from the local church in return for a small donation. Simply take some pretty gingham or other attractive festive ribbon and tie round the bottom of each pine cone. You can then hang them from a fireplace, window or similar at varying different lengths to create a nice rustic feel. You could also tie three together to make a bunch and hang them from a bow on a doorway. Hope you get the idea.
