  • Don't know if anyone has said this, and also can't remember if the sweet packaging (sounds great so far, this, doesn't it?!! )
When I was a kid we used to use the coloured cellophane from some of the Quality Street (or similar) sweets to use to make "stained glass windows". Cut an arch out of black card and cut holes of geometric shapes (or a picture if you are ambitious) and then stick the coloured cellophane on the back - hang in the window.
They looked great, and kept us kids busy and quiet - a good one for Christmas eve when you've started on the sweets!
  • checkout primark,ok,can't compete/match going out and foraging for your own for free,but.... good range of lights, dec's,paper, cards etc etc:j :snow_laug :xmassmile :rudolf: :santa2: _party_
  • We used to collect cotton reels and decorate with felt and sequins, very 70s and they lasted for years. Look great on the tree.
Shreds of tinfoil can look very good too when lights are a twinkling.

  • Apart from a real tree every year we've been using the same decorations for the last 20+ years, so once you've spent out once it's free thereafter, although we do occassionally go mad and buy something new we've never been enticed by passing fads like all one colour decorations.
  • POUNDLAND SPECIAL!!!!!get 2 small xmas trees from the poundland,(£2) get a set of lights (£1) and a set of the small baubles(£1) and a set of their small bows(£1) join the bases of the trees, and lights and then baubles and bows, then you have a really nice mantle swag or run along a banister staircase! looks amazing and costs only £5!!!!!!!!
  • :snow_laug I love any money saving ideas.

After christmas when the christmas cards come down we turn them into tags for next year. All you need to do is carefully select suitable cards and cut them to whatever shape you like, use a hole punch and put just one hole into tag in a suitable place and put some gold/silver thread through.
Thats it, and the kids can help too. You can still recycle the left over cards and cut out bits.
Go on have a go. Personalise those christmas presents.
