Was washing up last night and realised that I have my Prestige potato masher (with wooden handle) for over 20 years. I bought it in a second hand shop, purely on the basis that my mum had one for years! The handle on hers subsequently broke and she has had to buy a new masher twice since then.
So what would you hate to lose?

Hmm. Simple wooden spoon ranks hightly for me....I use this or a spatula spoon at least daily. A really good silicone egg slice....which I am withut as mine snapped yesterday...next time I'll buy two as altough fantastic this is the second to snap.
But my best thing is a newish one for me: tongs. Silicone ended so can be used in a non stick pan, I love these and use them more and more often.0

My Global vegetable chopper. I love it and it was a present many years ago from a head chef I worked under. He'd spent the whole weekend getting involved with the rugby sevens festivities and the restaurant was fully booked all weekend (never mind the walk-ins) as well as a wedding party being booked in. The knife was a thank you for covering his behind and making sure service went as smoothly as possible for the whole weekend."Who’s that tripping over my bridge?" roared the Troll.

MIne would be a potato masher I've got my mums old one that is dear knows how old! When I moved house I never had one for a couple of weeks and it was a nightmare getting mashed potatoes!!
Basic wooden spoons/spatulas I use on an almost daily basis. The other thing would be my grans rolling pin which was her grandmothers so it's exceptionally old but so trustwrothy and great for smashing up biscuits for a cheesecake Credit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011 Credit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011

My Global chefs knife. Actually, technically it's hubby's as his sister bought it for him when he was still single, but as I do all the cooking now, I've decided that it's mine! 0 0

I really love gadgets and have many things which whizz and whirr (and are then a nuisance to wash up) but in the end I'd settle for my little very worn, not-stainless steel Sabatier knife. It can be sharpened to be much sharper than modern knives and I was given it as a wedding present 38 years ago - not sure if you can even still get them. It does everything and though I could do without all my whizzing gadgets I could not do without it. Of all my 'modern' gadgets I'd put my Kuhn Rikon PC very high on list.0

I think you can still get Sabatier knives. I have a couple and wouldn't be without them. Without a knife any kitchen would be useless. My most used and loved kitchen-bits are a colander, sieve and my gorgeous 2nd-hand "Gripstand" mixing-bowl. Have you seen the price of those new? Probably worth every penny but I got mine for £30

My old style potato masher, metal with a wooden handle. So much better than the plastic ones that are so common nowadays. Paint is coming off handle though! Think it might have been my mums!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

A potato / vegetable peeler that works well. I have about 4 different ones in the drawer but only one that works well ! Just hoping I dont throw it out with the peelings by mistake ( has happened before lol).0
