How is everyone today?
Still awaiting this letter from bank of scotland with charges to date, A few of you mentioned getting money back from BOS/Halifax. How long did this take you and at what stage did they cough up, if you dont mind me asking?

hi 1mmaker
Since you mention broadband......
When I upgraded earlier this year I did so after checking my potential speed.
Both Pipex and BT website suggested that I could get "up to 6.5Mb"
Now when I enter my phone number both sites say "up to 2Mb"
Is this BT downgrading my line/exchange or what?
(and my connection now seems to be down at 1.8Mb from usually 4.5)
And apart from my dead boiler I am pretty good. Well that and my crappy new Freeview aerial not working properly. We all evolve - get on with it0 -
Thanks ckerrd! I might look into it and have a wee peek at the place
Cheers

They let you in for a look see before you join - if I remember correctly.
You have to be in one of the approved groups to join but it seems to be pretty wide.

Hey ckerrd, It could be a number of things e.g
1 Line degradtion
2 Overload at your exchange (Check https://www.samknows.com for local exchange upgrade dates)
3 A previous fault on your line where ther have downgraded your account from the exchange. If you call pipex they will be able to tell you this.
( 3 things would have been done the can look for
1: SNR Change
2: Line Remote Stabilisation
3: Turn Interleaving ON
You would need to ask if any of these have been done on your line)
There is only a few things you can do.
I take you are just checking your speed on https://www.bt.com/broadband
If you call pipex they can run a line test which will show your line speed and a thing called MSR ( Maximum Stable Rate ) Basically if your MSR is higher than your line speed it means you have a slower speed than your line can take.
Here is an example:
This is for a customer who has a slow speed issue
as you can see his line speed is showing at 160 which is very slow and his MSR is 1/2mb
he has an FTR of 403 so this case was then passed for investigation as his line rate is lower than this.
xDSL Status Check Analysis
OK.

Downstream xDSL Link Info

DSL MAX
Downstream Line Rate 160

Maximum Stable Rate Re-set (Y/N) N

Interleaved Auto
Hope this all makes sense and helps if not just give me a shout.

Jings what a lot of info, but thanks I will work my way through it.
I did email Pipex and they have suggested a lot of things.
I do get annoyed with the adverts that promise the earth - or fast broadband speeds at least - and then say well sorry you cant get this.
I am not meaning this is just me, but the whole telecommunications selling is very poorly regulated.
Anyway
I hope all fellow posters are having a good evening and I know this is of no concern to anyone but my bolier is still broken. However, I have high hopes that all will be well by close of play tomorrow.
Ever the optimist. We all evolve - get on with it0
