Holidays whilst still in debt

hornetgirl wrote:I just wonder where so many people get the idea that they "need" a holiday or "deserve" a trip abroad. Without aiming this at anyone in particular, surely it's this kind of thinking that has led so many people into debt in the first place? Of course there are exceptions and I appreciate this, but my personal view is that I couldn't justify spending so much on a foreign holiday if I also had debts outstanding.
I couldn't agree with this more - when did a holiday abroad become a need and not a luxury want?!0 -
I don`t have debts but that doesn`t mean that I`m not sympathetic to those who have and are trying their level best to get out of the debt pit
I think I don`t have debts because we did sensible things when money was really tight ie we went camping and had very cheap holidays. Never ever would we have had a foreign holiday if we had owed money. It`s all about getting to a stage when you can sleep at night I suppose0 -
IF you have your debts under control and aren't going to get in more debt to pay for the holiday then I'd definately go. A break will do your sanity good.

& I'll just tell you what you want to hear. Never mind the principle that the site was founded on, if you're in debt & want a holiday just go :T , after all you need it/ deserve it/ are entitled to it. {hugs}0

As a greenie, I'd urge you to consider taking a cheaper UK holiday rather than flying long distances. Think about how you're helping local British communities by spending your money here.
Holidays should be about reconnecting with your family - not how much you spend or how far you have to travel to get there.
Anyway, hope you enjoy it when you get there.

I am going to New York in 3 weeks! I have budgetted for it for nearly 12 months!
I would go on holiday if you can trust yourself to set a limit to your spending and budget for it... You will come back all refresheshed and motivated to clear your debts
