Holidays whilst still in debt

            Lou,
I don't think you should 'punish' yourself for being in debt by not having a holiday but maybe it isn't quite the right time to be having a 'holiday of a lifetime'? Maybe you could save up £600 and still have a good holiday but not quite as expensive. After all, you'll be able to afford more holidays when you have more money spare and then you won't feel guilty for paying out £1000.

i think i am gonna save £100 a month and see how i feel nearer the time, although i know i should stop being so hard on myself when i have made so many MSE friendly changes to my life in the past year!0 -

I was going to say the same thing, we all need rewards, especially if we are in it for the long haul. But I think setting yourself the goal of putting half of whatever you save towards a holiday or other treat will have the double bonus of paying off debt and giving yourself a reward.Debt Oct 2005: £32,692.94

I totally agree with everyone, you have to take some time for yourself otherwise you might get disheartened with things and having a break recharges the batteries.
We were thinking about a holiday abroad in 2007 because we haven't had one since our daughter was born 2 years ago, (moved 200miles from last home, changed jobs, purchased a house 2 months ago). So pretty skint at the mo. But then we decided to have a holiday in here (Wales) using The Suns holiday park vouchers and have a holiday in Cyprus in 2008.
Don't feel guilty about using your hard earned and saved cash, we all need to unwind.0 -

            Hi loopyloulou :j
I agree with your idea of paying some of the debt off each month, and putting some into savings.
If you decide against the holiday, you could always put the money you've saved as a lump (final) payment against your debt and get it paid off earlier.
But at least having the savings means you have the choice - esp if at least some of the debt is at 0%.....

IF YOU'RE SKINT......
Do I need it? Can I afford it? Can I find it cheaper anywhere else?
IF YOU'RE NOT SKINT......
Will I use it? Is it worth it? Can I find it cheaper anywhere else?0
