It wasn't free but it was only £1.65 and was the first I have bought at work for a couple of weeks! I was meeting some nice folk for coffee so it was a good value treat even if not free.

Just a quickie as I pop out from lurkdom.....I already do buy own brands rather than labels, these are just a few of my recommendations (!)
Morrisons
- own label baked beans (4-pack, £1.08) best-tasting ones by far
- red lentils
- 27.5 kg sack spuds (£3.75) - unwashed but good value
- bettabuy (their value range) passata - 34p
Lidl
Their own brand butter - Milbona (!) - slightly salted, like Lurpak but soooo much cheaper at 53p for 250g. I prefer butter & use this all the time for sandwiches & cooking..They also have v cheap mozarella cheese, their strong white bread flour is great value if you bake your own bread, 67p I think.
I'll post any others I think of tomorrow,
Happy shopping!
I will post some more
wish we had a morrisons nearby, I am liking the sound of that "i can't believe it's not lurpak" and i love their salad bars, and OH is always going on about their "pink" bread (the extra thick stuff that is good for toasting, it fuelled him through his uni days)Debt Oct 2005: £32,692.94

Well I have updated my spending diary on line and am sorting out my list for shopping tomorrow. Trying to work out what to take out as a budget.
I think I will go for £120 to include the grocery shopping (for the next fortnight), petrol, dog food and my personal spending. I already have £20 left over from the last fortnight so will withdraw £100 tomorrow and pay cash for these things. Will be buying value versions so hopefully will keep shopping costs low. I also have a few bills to pay but these will be cheques from other budgets so won't count in my cash.
It's payday today - am so pleased to get to the end of the month and not be at the edge of my overdraft limit! OH gets paid next week and then we will be sorting out overpayments on the debts as well as siphoning off amounts into different "budget" accounts - first time will have done this!0 -
Hi all
How is everyone? It is quiet on the thread at the moment....
I took the £100 out this morning to add to the £20 in my purse (as per yesterday's challenge). Went food shopping - spent £59.61 on groceries - should last a fortnight except for a little fresh fruit and veg in the second week. Also £13.68 on dog food (week to 10 days worth). Gave £15 to OH to top up personal spends. Leaving £31.71 - will probably put £25 fuel in the car so will have around £6 for personal spends this week. Should be doable.
Onto today's storecupboard challenge! Well I could cheat as my cupboards are bursting as have just done the shopping.... but I won't. I will make tea today out of things that we had already. I'm going to make a bacon risotto.
Will make it up as I go along but expect it to be: bacon cut into pieces and fried until crispy, add chopped onion and risotto rice and fry for a few minutes - then add vegetable stock, some herbs etc and simmer until rice cooked. Add peas (frozen) and small tin of sweetcorn 5 minutes before serving.
Think that's it. I'm loving this Tondella - thank you! :A0 -
Hi
sorry not been around for a couple of days had a bad cold and have been going to bed early so no MSE for me
Anyway reporting in:
Day 11 - packed lunch not relevant for today/tomorrow as its the weekend and generally am at home lunch time. But have got myself organised for Monday (work day).
Day 12 - Journal - well had a book to keep my records of my spending diary in but have decided to do on a spreadsheet as find that easier to manipulate eg looking where money going etc. So I will use that book as my journal.
Day 13 - Banishing the brands - not a total brand person but dont try hard enough lol so I will endeavour to do Challenge B - changing own brands for own Value(Tesco) /basic(Sainsburys) etc shop brands.
well that should keep me busy over the weekend - trying for a NSD tomorrow, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - ooooh getting brave!!!0 -
Morning all.
The bacon risotto was delicious - stuck with just peas in the end so really simple with only a few ingredients needed: bacon, risotto rice, onion, frozen peas and stock!
Onto day 17 - a no spend day. Should be easy as it is sunday and I am staying in to finish mine and oh's tax returns and some marking for school!
But I am going to set myself the challenge of having 3 NSDs a week - where I spend no cash, cheques or card payments (not counting DDs etc). Will let you know next week how I get on.
How is everyone else doing?0 -
I am rubbish lol Went out last night and spent > £50. I obviously have myself confused with someone who has money. Never mind a new week starting tomorrow so I will draw my horns in and try again. xx5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60
Currently CC £23,674.36 /£14,895.41/£14315.42
Mortgage £28,214.65/ £26,254.71/ £25,746.43
By end 2020 I want CC at £ 19,000.00.
By end 2021 I want CC at £10,000.000 -
Forget this thread sometimes
Sorry Tondella!
So day 14 was fairly easy, treated myself to a lazy lie in before volunteering
Day 15, didn't have access to a cash machine on Friday except the one in the shop by college which charges (I think not :money:) but I haven't spent anything since then anyway, and I have £8.00 in change for car parks etc so I will be using that for Moozie's weekly challenge too.
Day 16, again - we did this last night without even reading the thread  A good ol' tin o' tomatoes makes a meal every time with some veg and cod portions
Day 17, well I was working today and returned £61 worth of goods so am up £100 for the day :T :T :j :j

Hi Fellow Flybabies, 3 days in a row for me as my friend came to stay for the weekend.
Day 14
My friend arrived and we had a big night out with m'colleagues celebrating the end of an era, we're being outsourced on Thursday and commiserating the loss of 3 colleagues who aren't coming over with us. Only spent £14. Was a great night. Boogied like crazy
Day 15 - take care of the pennies …
Have the remaining cash which I took out of the bank for the weekend, I have more than I mean to spend so I've locked away the extra and given myself £30 for the week ahead.
Day 16 - our cup(board) runneth over
Leftovers for me today, I also used my housemates bread, she's away for two weeks now so will be off by the time she returns, saved pennies and saved on waste. I cooked quiche for 3 of us last night and I polished off the leftovers today. I've got stacks of food in the freezer and cupboards for the rest of the week."Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it." (Montgomery, L.M.(1908). Anne of Green Gables.)
