Totally agree - no government is going to go down that route at present that is the only certainty

If I choose to buy a more expensive car and associated running costs don't see why I should be penalised twice for another road "tax" aswell.
Of course saying that, as someone who should know better, I very much realise tax is certainly not always "fair"

They should be paying more in road tax as well then! They have cars that pollute more than mine and I'm paying more than they are, great (I don't really think they should pay any more, I just think I should be paying less!)

Whilst a massive generalisation pre 2001 cars are possibly more polluting by way of CO2 emmissions because many would not have been built to meet stricter emmissions targets 9especially diesels that do throw out lots of nasties without careful filtering).

Also there will undoubedly be many older cars running round never being serviced and looked after properly because they are run on a shoestring - more modern cars have to be looked after as they won't work if run like that!

Its all a generalisatuion o know but any system is bound to have winners and losers. Bottom line is play the system and change your car of course

It's amusing that CO2 is treated as some sort of pollutant, the same gas humans breathe out.

How a road tax system is based on CO2 emissions is beyond belief.
As someone has already mentioned, in ten years time, when the majority of cars are hybrid/low emission the taxes will be raised on these in order to recoup lost revenue.

All a big scam!
