Unclaimed prize register

I received a letter this morning telling me I had won a prize from the unclaimed prize register. I logged on to this site to see what everyone else is saying, just to confirm my doubts!!
In my letter, they are asking for 14.95 postage and insurance!!!! SCAM? I THINK SO!! It must be due to the credit crunch that these people are even more desperate to get my cash, and they are playing on my vulnerability in the credit crunch!! As a previous poster said, GET A REAL JOB!!! Hopefully they work on a commission and get diddly-squat!!
No matter how desperate you are, DO NOT REPLY TO THESE!!! Buy a scratch card instead!! You have more luck!!!0 -
Just had one of these today - They want payment of £14-95. uess who WONT be getting it!!
BUT have recently heard that in most Libraries there are some yellow bins that you can put in any letters that you think are a scam - they are then checked out by OFT.
ANYTHING that can help stop this the better.:rotfl:0 -
Hi,
I've also had one of these today, with £14.50 postage and delivery costs, anyone else have a "unique" claim number of 038900009702884.
Watch out with these sharks, they really do manage to pull off potentially reputable quite well, also managing to really make you wonder if this may be the one competition that isn't actually a scam!!!! glad I logged on here and foud out otherwise!!0 -
Hmmm, I got a letter this morning from "The Unclaimed Prize Register". When I googled them, I found a whole LOAD of threads like this one, running all the way back to 2006!!
It seems Messrs D&B have been (still are?) trading under a number of different names...
I'll be sending the letter straight to Ross-on-Wye Trading Standards. Has anyone contacted Watchdog? Just thinking a little more publicity as to exactly what is involved might stop a few vulnerable and/or elderly people from responding.0 -
hi i have also recieved one of these this morning was almost taken in as it said i'd won a prize in an on line survey and i do complete online surveys but something just rang alarm bells, so i decided to do a search and found this thread. The thing i'm puzzled about is was it just coincidence that they'd put about the survey or do they somehow know i do these surveys and if so how? Is there anywhere i can report this company cos the next person might not realise and be scammedand i don't want them to get away with this!Frump to Fab - Solstice Sizzler

They target peoples greed and naivety in a way by sending thousands of emails and hoping some fall for the spiel.Don't fall for it.0 -
These letters are really annoying. I get about 2 per week and with Final Notice in black writing on the front that makes it look like I haven't paid something. :mad:Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!0

if there's a postal address to reply to....get all your old fast food menus....bits of junk mail you get in your post....put in an envelope (without stamps) send back to them....just pop in a post box....then they will get notification they have mail but have to pay to receive it....could be a cheque for £14.95....who knows....pretty soon they AND the Royal Mail will get a bit cheesed off....so no mail deliveries to them....unless they pay....seeeemplesI'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j

1st if its a freepost envelope they will just be charged as per their licence
if not they will most likely be a large enough customer to have a billing account so wont even have a delay
lastly no mail deliveries? these companies continue because people still bite.
all the people recieving them are those not careful about mailing preference tick boxes0 -
I have also received this letter with the same unique personal allocation code as raycboy and mmckenzie.
I have now received another very concerned letter enquiring as to why I had not responded to their first letter. This could make some people think this could be legitimate as why would they bother to chase you up if it were a scam? These people are getting clever, beware.
The envelope also had 'important documents enclosed' printed on it!0
