any good christening presents?

I recently bought a roman coin for a boy. I wanted to get a roman ring as some have early Christian symbols but were a bit out of my price range. If it's something you want them to keep then I think it should be small.0

Our boy is getting christened in the summer. I think I might ask people to get him a book that they/their children enjoyed and write something in it. I think it will be a nice keepsake for him, and our families are both big readers.
ETA- would rather people spent money on something that he can enjoy, rather than some silver trinket that will stay in it's box.Debt free as of July 2010 :j

It totally depends on your budget. I wanted to get a nice picture frame for a Christening I went to recently - all the ones in the shops seemed to be really old fashioned and it was for a fairly young couple. I found, in Home Bargains, a really modern but gorgeous picture frame - a 'slab' of glass in a stainless steel base which you slotted your photograph into. The base has two little engraved hands. Gorgeous and only £2.49! I will certainly be buying another for future gifts. I also bought in Home Bargains some wrapping paper with a stork carrying a new baby and matching tags - 29p for two sheets.
The recipients loved their gift and I was so glad I didn't spend a fortune on something they wouldn't use like a silver tooth holder or something!0 -
My nephew's getting a china Gruffalo cup and biscuit plate (I thought it was cute!): http://www.truffleshuffle.co.uk/store/the-gruffalo-milk-biscuit-set-p-3917.html
You can get a breakfast set as well if you want something a bit more practical.
When he turns one I'm going to get him a set of classic books for various ages (toddler, infant school, junior school, KS3, KS4, adult). Maybe something like that would work?"A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -

I bought one of these for my niece's baby daughter, as a keepsake, not a toy.0 -
The best and most used present we got for our twins were travrl booster chairs.... got the boys out of high chairs much quicker and they could sit with us for dinner - we can take them round friends for dinner and if we were to go we dont have to worry about not having a 'high chair; for the monkeys... ours were £25 from mothercare.
We have a box full of fist curl first tooth silver boxes and half a dozen silver money boxes and birth certificate holders and a whole jewlrey box of silver crosses. I am all for the practicall gift!
When child gets older and can appreciate it - maybe choose a forever present with them.0 -
I got my god-daughter a lovely quaich for her christening, i figured that everyone would get Bibles, Bangles & all the usual stuff, so i figured that would be a little differentRetired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

They have some really nice things on notonthehighstreet.com - I always look on there whenever I need to buy a gift, and noticed the other day that they had some gorgeous baby things.
