    Thanks all, useful to know.
  • Guess it's just for ease of use if you need to set-up a Direct Debit or provide your details for payments.

Much easier than people having to carry around a cheque book or statement..

Most people will have a debit card on them these days rather than the above.

I know my HSBC one. It was only because when they had solo cards, the card number was 6767sortcode accountnumber, so whenever I had to do any online orders I would be entering the 6767, then sortcode, then account number.

Just to let people know the SOLO scheme is being permanently decommised this year, think it is 31 March or there abouts. So if you have a SOLO card it is time to get it replaced.

I was exactly the same. Then when I got Maestro, it was 6759sortcodeaccountnumber :D Those were the days ... when I used to be able to buy online without needing to even look at my card!

First Direct also print both sort code and a/c number.

In fact, the sort code and a/c number are the only thing that differentiate the debit card from their credit card. Easily confused on a dark night :p
