its installed on the hard drive - as once I took the disc out I got the ntldr missing message again.

But with both on I don't have any spare disk space

Need to clear up some space

Will sort out the screenshot shortly

    Thanks

  • Okay then,

Do you know if you installed Ubuntu on a seperate partition, or the same one as Windows? e.g - Windows would generally be on C:, and so, Ubuntu will either be on the C: with Windows OR on another drive letter.

Berr! Without seeing the computer I can't really say.

Load up Ubuntu WITHOUT installing it and then check the local hard drive. Lemme know what's there. :)
  • At post # 3 the OP stated:

I suspect the reassurance that the temporary use of Ubuntu to go online without an AV/firewall whilst trying to solve the problem of restoring XP would have been of benefit to the OP.

    BTW

Ubuntu will not be on C: or any other drive letter for that matter, as Linux doesn't use drive letters, in the way you are implying. Nor will a Linux partition be allocated a drive letter when booted into Windows, which the OP can't do anyway, as Windows does not recognise ext3/ext4 partitions.

Accept my sincere apologies - I recently lost a pair of socks.

BTW one of the benfits of using Ubuntu is you don't need to worry about Anti Virus and firewall if you are behind a router.

by the way thanks for that - it is reassuring to know

We are now getting used to Ubuntu also the office software that comes with it

Thanks for your reply - had hoped it was the right information :)

I would of chosen option 1 - but as I have not got any available disk space left, I assume that I wont be able to save documents, pictures etc. Nor load any further programmes.

Options, 2,3, & 4 - I dont know how you wipe the disk

I know that I could re-install Ubuntu from the cd that I downloaded - would I be able to re-install windows from the system and recovery cd's?

googled Testdisk - but it does not mention Ubuntu in the list of operating systems - so would I be able to run it?

Once again thanks for your help
