Orange San Francisco - No thanks - Big row with Orange

Have had this phone for a week - trying to set up and sort out various problems. Told had to use android app for emails - but could only send not receive - then orange said they'd put emails on my tariff and set up the push system - after numerous calls didn't work and they said it was a compatability prob with ntlworld. I should return phone and order a new one that was compatible.

To cut a very very long story short and numerous very long phone calls having to reexplain the problem to each person - they said that phone would never have worked with my email - and gave two options either pay another £5/month (NO WAY!) or accept a lower model (AGAIN NO WAY WHY SHOULD I).... neither of which was acceptable to me as I had agreed the original tariff/phone for a reason.

I had to absolutely 'lose it' with the supervisor in the end - and was in tears in the end before he conceeded and gave me a marginally better phone - Wildfire - for the same £10.21 tariff.

I am still reeling from the call - my husband heard every word and can't believe it either - OK I've got a replacement coming but quite frankly its tainted my few of orange completely - shame as when I bought the phone last week the sales guy was great.

Would have just cancelled there and then but I am self employed and need the number plus both parents very ill so cannot be without a phone.

Shame on you Orange to put your customers through this kind of traumatic experience.

If you removed the Orange crap from the phone and use a de-branded ROM you wouldn't have had any trouble at all :)

But then if I'd have had a problem after I wouldn't have been able to send it back to Orange - but I see where you're coming from... thanks!

Had the San Francisco since November and love it - been a user of googlemail for years and it is brilliant - email just comes and goes with no problems at all.

Actually you would, it's very easy to put back to the factory state :)

Or my 12 yr old son could have changed it for me!

Don't want to change email address as use it for work - have gmail account as back up but not for main account....my son got the San Francisco at the same time and had no probs setting up with gmail account.

Still the good thing thats come out of it is that my son will be pleased he hasn't got the same phone as his mum anymore!

sound more like the smtp setting, simple fix, well not even a fix, just a case of correct settings. you mention ntl, but u most likley sending via smtp.orange.net. would needed to be the ntl server with authenicate on/enabled.

I love my OSF. I use custom ROM dowloaded from Modaco. I think Wildfire is not better but lower class just more expensive.

I'm no fan of Orange but its not Orange's fault that you have a crap email provider.

I think they've treated you rather well actually as they probably weren't obliged to offer you anything whatsoever.

Actually ntlworld email is supplied by GMail, far from crap. It is Orange's fault as the Orange Email client is turd.
