Pushchairs/Prams?? Where to go??

  • Right this is what we have decided.

As the maxi-cosi (according to their website) does not fit in my Focus without the EasyBase and also the Britax First Plus (according to their website) only just fits, we are going to go to Mothercare on Saturday and see if they dont mind checking if either fit my car.

IF the Britax First Plus does then we will get both, the Britax for my car, to stay put in my car, and the maxi-cosi for my partners car, as it can be used in hers either by the seat belts or with the EasyBase.

IF the Britax doesnt fit in my car we will buy the Maxi-cosi and the EasyBase. Then when the Maxi-cost no longer is suitable then go for the next size up which fits in both cars.

    It therefore means I am likely to spend either;

£116 on Firstplus + £90 on Maxi-cosi (£10 cheaper for spending over £150 on a certain website) = £206, but we have two seats, one for each car and a seat which should last longer than first 12 months

    OR

£100 on maxi-cosi + £68 on EasyBase = £168, so cheaper, but after around 12 months a new seat will be needed

So if Mothercares staff are happy to see if they fit then I shall make my decision / our decision should I say, on Saturday night.

Thanks for your help - does this sound sensible?

Sounds like a plan! It is a good idea to go along and see which seats are a good fit. If there are any problems with them then I'm sure they'll have alternatives to suggest. Good luck with it and also congratulations about your baby!
  • A quick update.

We went to Mothercare and used their services. The maxi-cosi cabriofx and the Britax First Plus both fit nicely in my car. So we have bought both, the maxi-cosi for my partners car so it can be easily taken out and then Britax First Plus for my car and we can then use this when he or she outgrows the maxi-cosi.

I didnt buy them from Mothercare. I got them from preciouslittleone for £206.00 for both including delivery - very good price.

Thanks for all your help, I will be back asking for more advice when the little one outgrows the first plus ;)
  • I've been looking at these as they are a complete travel system & you get foot muff/raincovers etc with it.

It seems very reasonable at £250 plus p&p, looks sturdy & they also do it in so many different colours.

ETA I didn't read the whole thread before posting so wasn't aware you had already bought one doh. :o
I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

  • Well I bought a second hand maxi-cosi confort loola push chair from eBay for £58 and spent £206 on the two car seats. The car seats are brand new so only spent £264 all in, which gets us the push chair which has front and rear facing seat positions and a rain cover, in great condition and the two car seats (one of which is suitable from birth to 18kgs/4years).

Perhaps look at the maxi-cosi/bebe confort loola push chairs on eBay, but I decided I wanted the car seat brand new (safety reasons).
  • Oh and the maxi cosi car seat fits the maxi cosi confort loola push chair, so can be used as a travel system. All in all is cheaper than that item on eBay. Try having a look second hand at the push chairs.

one of things that irritates me, is when people use a car seat instead of a pushchair, I can understand the use of it when nipping into shops quickly, but when people are going around the like of the trafford centre etc, then they are going to be there for some time.
Babies are better laid flat, it apparently better for their spine, so if the pushchair lays flat and you're out and about for a while, use that.
I have no evidence to hand to say they shouldn't be in car seats for a certain amount of time (some people say 1-2 hours maximum), and I know they can't exactly stretch out when they are inside, but once they're out, then I think it's only fair to give them the chance to stretch out.
I know I wouldn't like to be squashed that much for that length of time.
Also on the next stage car seat, try and continue to rear face as it's less strain on their neck/back if you have a head on collision (God forbid).

    Sorry if that sounded preachy
  • Not sure if that was aimed at me? But I wont be using it as a pushchair, I just said it can be used on our push chair.

Hi, no it wasn't aimed at anyone specific, just general! didn't mean it to sound like I was having a go either. Sorry if it sounded like that.

Glad to hear you got on well with the carseat fittings and you got a bargain pushchair too!
