    My partner has suggested;

Buying the maxi-cosi for her day to day use in her car, easier to get in and out etc, so she can use it as a carry cot and car seat.

Buying the britax first plus for my car to stay in there and take the maxi cosi with us just to use as a carry cot on journeys done in my car.

This way when the maxi-cosi is not able to be used any more we still have the other one.

What do you think? I can get the maxi cosi for £90 and the other for £116 so not a fortune.

That sounds like a good idea. It's far easier to have a seat for each car anyway as if you only have one then there is always the danger of someone driving off with the only carseat by mistake!

If you don't mind me asking - where were you going to buy them from? It's just that you might be able to get more money off if there is a discount voucher for the site.
  • Possibly preciouslittleones. Having said about getting two I just had a look on the Britax website and it says that when it is in the rear facing position the seatbelts in my car are only just long enough to get round it.

So now not sure just to stick to the one (maxi cosi) and just bring it in and out each time we use the car, then when times up on it get the next size up.

So I will either get from Boots or Preciouslittleones as they are only £100 delivered.
  • I dont get how on the Britax website a 3 door fiesta fits fine in the back seats, yet a 5 door focus it says the seat belts on just fit round it in the rear facing position.

Do you really think this would be a problem? In the front facing position there were no issues seat belt wise.

    Hi Dan,

Unfortunately Ford Focus' are renowned for being carp for fitting rear facing baby seats as they do generally have shorter seat belt lengths - despite being a family friendly car!

Saying that, it does depend on the model of the Focus. I have a Focus C-Max and the Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix and it does fit using the seatbelt. I would suggest maybe visiting Mothercare with the Focus and getting them to check for you.

Alternatively you could get a base like the Easyfix where the seatbelt length wouldn't be a problem.

I had the exact same confusion as you do a couple of months ago about car seats - and I think I've got my head around it!!

    Good luck :)
  • I have a 5 door focus zetec. I would hope the maxi-cosi fits. If not I would need to buy the easybase thing for it. So I will probably order the maxi-cosi tonite and go from there
  • Also confused.

Just checked that the maxi cosi does not fit my focus via the 3 way point part of with the seat belt BUT strangely with the easybase 2 it says it will fit with the 3 way point system. How does the easybase 2 make a difference?

Some car seats, despite using a base with them, need you to put the chest section of seatbelt around the seat...others don't. So if your seatbelts are too short for just the car seat, it maybe you can still use that seat if the base doesn't require you to put seatbelt round the seat.

We had the Creatis Fix car seat and base and it needed you to clip the car seat into the base and then stretch the chest section of belt round the back of the seat. We're expecting number 2 and buying a new car seat to fit our double buggy, and the one we're looking at (Britax Babysafe Plus SHR + Babysafe base) doesn't seem to need the seat belt to go round the back of the seat once it's clipped to the base.

Honestly, I'd wait until the weekend or something and go to Mothercare and get them to check for you before ordering anything.

Is the baby due imminently? There's no rush is there?
  • Nope not due imminently. I am just an impatient person hehe. Thank you all for your suggestions. Its a shame about some reviews of different things online, 10 positive reviews are normally over shadowed by 1 negative.

Oh, I understand :) I found Mothercare to be very helpful though, and they will try all suitable car seats in your car, and bases, so you can make sure you get the right one. You don't have to buy from them, but certainly use their services

I got the MaxiCosi Cabriofix and EasyBase2 for my VW Golf, I was chuffed as it's the cheapest base :D
