Personally I love the idea of two-factor authentication, however I think it would be better if a system similar to what Google uses is used along side the Secure Key. As with my Google account I use my phone to generate a one time code to login, HSBC and other financial services could create an application which will allow the generation of this and then as most people have their phones with them it would make it much easier.

Something like Santander's One Time Password?

Yep basically something like that, however a mobile application may be more suitable as it would be quicker and also you will be not charged if you wish to access your account overseas. Of course for those without smart phones or if you have had your phone lost or stolen it would be best to offer a calling service to either the registered mobile or house phone.

Got mine this morning, seems very good so far - a little smaller but thicker than a credit card, so should fit in my wallet to use anywhere.
Nothing like a card reader either.

    Received mine too.

Had to set up three new questions and answers. The third question is now asked everytime you logon, in addition to using the Secure Key.

Much thicker than a credit card, so doesn't fit in my wallet.

Needless to say, I've switched everything to another bank. I'd much prefer a card reader because at least I only need to keep one device and they are all inter-compatible.

Horses for courses, I suppose - I much prefer the Secure Key to the various card readers that I have, especially as I have multiple cards with a number of banks and have to try to remember to select the correct card and corresponding PIN.

I would much rather they just used one password and required it to be of a certain length and complexity, especially as my banking passwords are always longer than 20 characters it seems I will now have to remember 3 of them. Questions like "What's your mothers maiden name" annoy me as it is quite easily discoverable information an provides no form of security.

Agreed. My mother and my first pet had no bother clearing out my bank account before they eloped together.

I am leaving HSBC if I have to use this. I already have one for business, I dont want to carry two for the same bank. Imaging if all the banks did it? I'd need a separate bag to carry everywhere just for my devices. That would make me a nice mugging target wouldnt it. Lloyds two password and user ID feature is far more secure as its all in my head. I dont have room in my wallet. It is absurd that HSBC think it reasonable for us to carry round security devices with us all the time.

When you register, it asks for the device serial number. I'm not sure if it'll accept the serial number of your business device on your personal account?
