@those who have already received it, how did it arrive ? normal post/recorded delivery/signed-for courier or what?

Interesting letter in the Times Money section today from somebody in a similar situation to you. HSBC have agreed to let them log in as usual without the token whilst they're abroad, might be worth contacting them.
Maybe we should all claim to be 'abroad' for several months if we don't want to use this. In the article HSBC admit they're having 'teething problems' (guess that means unhappy customers !). Sense they're having a bit of a 'wobble' over the implementation. It should only should be required for making payments. Has any body actually been refused access to their accounts for not registering ? Haven't had mine yet, think I'll ignore it and see what happens, after all these things can easily get lost in the post........0 -
The reason for them implementing this at the login is fairly simple, they barely have to make modifications to their software. Adding verification to other places would require more of a rewrite costing them more money and taking longer.
This could be phase 1 but doubt this is gonna change until they replace their internet banking in 5 years or so.0 -

I quite like the idea of us all claiming to be overseas, however I am sure they could monitor login via IP addresses, but I cant see why we couldnt through a concerted effort create some kind of petition... anyway I do hope like others that they reconsider the need to make its use compulsory for internet banking and simply offer an opt out option with restricted access and transaction privileges as with Barclays and the basic login access!0

The HSBC website states that you will also have to use the key when you set up a payee for the first time - so the modifications/verification stuff is already there..
My understanding is that HSBC are rolling out a common internet banking platform globally and that they aim to update this every 18 months or so - not once in 5 years.

I have just logged a complaint with HSBC over this, and expressed that I plan to switch banks as a direct result.
I wouldn't mind using this to set up new payments etc. but log in EVERY time with this thing? Not good.
I have also messaged first direct who I also bank with, to ask them nicely never to participate in such a scheme!
:T I will do the same, and hope lots of people will follow suit. I travel a lot and hate the idea of having to remember to bring that stupid plastic thing around! I left Barclays bank because of that. Instead of making our lives more simple they are complicating them! I am sooooooooo annoyed!!0 -
I'm waiting until I receive my token. If as claimed it's easy to carry around then I won't mind too much. Though I don't have a wallet or handbag so I'm sceptical.
If it turns out to be a pain then I'll move my account.0 -
its not as monstrous as the PINsentry device but its still a pain in the ar*e, esp as you need it to log in rather than simply use it to make payments for the first time.0

It's also as flimsy as anything - I can't keep it in my wallet as it would get destroyed pretty quickly, let alone dangling off a bunch of keys & stuffing them into a pocket/bag etc..
I predict mine will be dead from terminal fragility long before the battery is an issue & I don't fancy having to call up every few weeks & order a replacement, which you can bet will take several days to arrive & then all the associated messing about - hmm.
I've got mine already & am trying to find a suitable way to keep it on my at all times but also safe from any harm before I go ahead & tie myself to it.0
