Found a debit card

Why are Santander such !!!!!!?
I found a debit card today. Rang santander, the issuer, to tell them. I asked if they'd contact the card holder to let him know. Save the panic, help him manage the situation. Y'know, not wake up in the morning and realise he can't buy breakfast, a train ticket, petrol etc. Even get a jump on ordering a replacement. No. They don't do that. they do nothing except block the card. They can't contact him for security reasons. I bet they'd be on the phone like lightening if he owed them money.
So, they just wait for the card holder to contact them. They just don't care. They spent longer on the phone to me than it would have taken to drop the poor sod an email or call. I feel sorry for the chap. I'd hope my bank would be a bit more proactive. I have a suspicion that they wouldn't be, though.
Tried to find him online but no luck, and I don't have access to the premium 192.com for the search that requires (although it seems probable that he is on there, it seems there is only one of him in the area).
So - santander - the worst in the country for a reason.

I found a handbag with a purse inside. No address ID, so I called the RAC number on her breakdown card. Within 2 minutes they'd called her, she called me and I arranged to meet her and gave her her handbag back. The man without a signature.0

I found a wallet stuffed with cash a couple of credit cards and one bank card. Phoned a mate who is bank manager in a different bank - he called the guys bank, pulled a few strings - ten minutes later the owner calls me to thank me for finding his wallet and contacting the banks. Both banks involved went above the call of duty to act so quickly and saved this guy a huge amount of hassle. Pity it's not handled the same for everyone.0

I found a lady's purse which contained several cards including a Tesco clubcard.
Went to Tesco to hand it in, as they could obviously identify the lady, but they wouldn't accept it as they claimed it would be a breach of data protection!
What a carry on.0 -
I've had a purse handed in at work, found a blockbusters card inside, phoned them up and asked if they could phone the customer to let them know, collected it within 30 minutes. Also dropped a driving license off to someone when they dropped it on the floor as it was just down the road from me.What is pi? Where did it come from?0

Well you might not have been the first person to discover it, it might have been dumped. With the CV2 number or whatever it's called on the back the the main number on the front & expiry thats enough to use it online.
If it had been then it wouldn't be much use to the card holder if it had been used to the limit of the account, they still wouldn't be able to buy anything because it would keep getting declined!0 -
There is one thing that seems to be missing in a lot of these cases and its common sense.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Most wallets contain cards and stuff that you would be grateful to have back - loyalty cards, membership cards, receipts, 12 year old unused condom...The man without a signature.0 -

I do love how supermarkets, shops etc. have such difficulty in understanding the DPA. Why on earth would this breach data protection laws?! If you'd have asked them to explain which part of the DPA specifically disallowed your giving them the card to return to its owner, I'd have been interested to hear the response."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
A few years ago OH left his card in Boots while on his lunch break. Boots called First Direct, who called us and told him to go and pick it up
Brilliant service from both companies really.0 -
Sometimes a bit of common sense is needed. But there are so many companies where employees are in fear of not playing by the rules, that they don't do anything!0
