Could your nephew's parents not support her?0 -
As she is 16, Connexions are a good place to start. Out of work type benefits are not readily available to those under 18 (despite what the Daily Mail says!), but they can help with work, college, baby and benefits if applicable; plus how to combine the lot.0

Congratulations...it doesn't take much in the way of money to have a baby. She's got a roof over her head. Council tax paid, bills paid. Is any of that under threat? You'll find everyone will be coming forward offering help. At least I'd like to think so. So she'll get CTC's and CB herself and her own mother will still get them if she stays on at school.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

The very first thing this girl needs to do is arrange financial support from your nephew.
Suggesting a termination for a girl in this situation isn't unreasonable and no reason for you to be upset; it's actually nothing to do with you whether she does this, has the baby adopted or keeps it.0 -
try and see what https://www.entitledto.co.uk says about entitlement, etc and other financial help. I know from experience that if you apply too early for the SSMG,they reject it and you can re-apply closer to the time as its only offered within a set period of time. I also think that at the age of 16 (someone will correct me if im wrong) living with parents still would need to have their parents help with claims, etc as it will go onto the parents claim/in their name.
As poppyoscar says, take no notice of the people trying to casue trouble, if in doubt, just hit the report button if you find any post offensive, thats what its there for
Also, try to find out if there is a sure start group near you as they sometimes loan or give away baby equipment and check out freecycle and ebay too.

Another place you could get baby items is from freegle (freecycle.org)0

How do you know the parents of the unborn child won't leave school with good qualifications - set up home when they have found employment and go on to have a successful life together as a family?
The only thing that I'd be concerned at at this stage is the girls ability to finish her education (including further education) although this can be done if she has the support of both families.
Why shouldn't the unborn child have a chance in life?0 -
How old is your nephew? Just wondering if he is working or still in education.
Ok so it's not ideal but it's done now and you just have to be practical. Being 16 doesn't mean you can't be a good parent.
They might have to manage with benefits now but who's to say that in a year or so both parents won't be working? And won't claim benefits again? If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in
