  • I just picked one of these up from Staples.

I saw it in the shop and didn't understand what it was so went home checked it out on the Internet and then realised it was a bargain - so went back and got one - they seemed to have a few more in the stockroom.

The GPX Navigator is still supposed to be a rather excessive £199 according to the Manufacturer's website - so that makes the Staple £19.91 price 90% off

    http://www.gpxtechnologies.com/

Auto Express gave it 4 out of 5 stars in their tests in March 2006.

Its a GPS Speed Camera Database Locator, Trip Computer and Navigation Device. Ok so it's no Tomtom - but it is only £19.91 - you get what you pay for.
Its limited navigation capabilities guide you to a large number of pre programmed locations (Towns, Mainline Train Stations, Airports, Ferrys etc).

    The Main Limitations as far as I can see it are;

No Voice - Beeps and Text Only
You can program in your own favourite locations, Like Home, Work, Parents, Staples etc (but you have to actually be there and bookmark them whilst at the location)
It needs wired power to work (not rechargeable)
It comes with a cable that plugs into a Serial Port rather than USB (some newer PCs don't feature these any more)
The Database update costs money after 6 months (but you can refuse to subscribe and continue to use your old database info without any further charge)

Here's the comprehensive spec on it....

    Fixed Safety Camera Locator
GPX Navigator offers early warning of a range of fixed safety cameras including GATSO, Truvelo, Watchman and SPECS - allowing you to adjust your speed accordingly.

    :D

They must be barking mad, £19.91 is about just right for this unit!

Had one not so long back and gotta say the database is pretty good!

  • Hi,
I nipped into the staples at Wakefield and found the Smartdisk 'Flashtrax XT portable multimedia player / recorder' 80GB for £29.91. I was told by the assistant that this was the last one (apart from the display model) in store but I don't know what it is like in other stores.

If you get one check everything is there as I had to go back as the battery, AC power cable, and media adapter were all missing (they replaced them with the display model ones).

The code on the reciept is '0785134009005'.
  • Just picked up the last one in Plymouth for £17.99. Amazon price £69.99.
