    I am most cross..

DS1 has fed the cats meat but no biscuits so they think they haven't been fed and have eaten each other.. Noel poor starved creature is ripped.. he is usually rippled! wasting away he is!

There are 2 dirty nappies in the front room.. one of them full of poo.. and to top it all.. Jacob was sick in the kitchen apparently and DS cleaned it up with.. MY BRAND NEW TEA TOWELS!!!!!!! I have a MAJOR sick phoia and he hasn't even put the towels or his pj's in the washing machine.. I could just cry.

He has lost his key and taken DD1's .. I said she could stay here as he was here to 'look after' her but I think she is the one looking after him he is such a twerp!

    hi dontknowanymore

i used to feel like this - i have kids 5 and 6 and a DH who works (gets under my feet) at home...as well as having sheep, pigs, chickens, goats turkeys and now ducks to feed...

i did try the american flylady and picked up a few things but never could keep up with that list and struggled to keep up with this OS list here..

what i did is make a list of things that HAVE to be done every day - a morning list and an after 3.3o list - which includes even the most basic things and as the kids have got older they now read it themselves and tick things off as they go...

so my after 3.30 list has things like empty book bags and kids to do homework, empty packed lunch boxes, eat tea, kids washed and to teeth cleaned and to bed, bread maker on (the kids now want to help do this as part of their going to bed routine - flour goes everywhere but then i brush the table and floor once they are in bed) i load the dishwasher and load the washing machine at night and do a load overnight to put out in the morning before the school run, uniform goes on bathroom radiator whilst the kids are cleaning teeth / bathing and they do now dress themselves in the morning as soon as they get up.. if i put the cereals and bowls on the table they help themselves in the morning too (sometimes backfires if they spill milk all over themselves and their clean uniforms they have put on before they came downstairs:eek:) but usually it is ok i

Morning routine is washed, teeth brushed, hair brushed, pj's under pillows and beds made, cups downstairs and put in DW (and now the kids do all this before coming down and rush to tick off on the list)

there are about 15 things on the morning list and about the same on the after 3.30 list... including a reminder for me to think about what is for dinner the next day on the 3.30 list (in case it needs to come out of freezer) and reminders to check the calendar and write the next days to do list...

I figure they are learning a routine themselves as they tick off the jobs as they go - they are printed on an A4 sheet in a plastic cover that is stuck on fridge. and DD now keeps making to do lists in her private diary... i would love to know what a 6 yr old has to do every day!

Now some of the jobs have become habit both for me and the kids - so now the essentials are getting done i find it easier to focus on the other tasks on the lists here.. some of the level ones are covered in my essentials list and so i am finding it much easier to cope as it all becomes more organised..

and the good thing is that now the kids nag DH and say - have you put your PJ's away?, have you made your bed?, have you put your cereal bowl in DW? so hopefully one day he might be housetrained..

so i would recommend a dailies list that was personalised to your lifestyle and your needs - some people NEED to mop every week, others NEED to change sheets every week, i would say just work out your own prioraties as to what YOU need done on a daily and weekly basis to make you feel happier, more in control of your house...

it does get easier - I used to be in total chaos and could not let anyone in as i was so ashamed - I even was worried about calling the emergency doctor out once as i thought they would call social services as the house was so bad - now I am only ashamed of one room - but others with different standards and needs might still be ashamed of my whole house - but i feel happier knowing that i am trying even if it is not perfect

If I could thank you a million times for that post I would :A thank you so much, you have given me so much to go on (not that the thread wasn't informative in the first place, it just helped for someone to break it down into little pieces like that) I felt stupid at putting simple things on my list so left them out, now I am going to put them on there.
My eldest son will love the idea of his own list.

I bet it takes you longer to do your 2 than it does me to do my 3 that I dress, feed and brush.. the older ones just need booting out the door and the baby just needs boob which takes about 20 minutes so I don't actually get out of bed until 8ish most days.. or I get up.. wake everyone, throw clothes at the 3 pinks and go for a wee then feed the baby then brush and dress (cos they never do it without me standing over them) and feed the pinks and kick them out.

Get out their clothes the night before.. if they are not in said clothes by a certain time they don't get fed.. If they are not wearing shoes I won't brush their hair. I am pure evil.. and there is nothing these 3 can do the older 5 haven't done before them.

I will take them to school, undressed, in pj's, shoeless, unbrushed and no pe bag.. I don't care they have ample warnng and time to get ready.
I just re read my post and the first bit sounded a bit rude :o I apologise x

When are you evicting DS1 piggers?

My dad arrived yesterday so we have mowed the lawn, done Something to the mower to make it work better :o looked at houses, chopped a lot of the apple tree off (we can't reach the top) and chopped all the brushwood so it is now in bags in the shed drying ready for burning. We've shifted 8 barrow loads of soil from one of the beds so it is level, and planted some stuff we should have done last year, and used the excess soil to cover where the old shed was. Have to go to the office tomorrow, so my dad will be sawing the tree branches into logs and stacking them, and cutting the hedge before he leaves. Hopefully I can now keep the garden under control!

    hi

yes, i know what you mean - my list has get dressed, wash face, clean teeth - and if anyone else sees it stuck to the fridge - i would be embarresed but i label the list Family routine and we all have a column to tick - so people can [STRIKE]see[/STRIKE]think it is to help the kids get into a routine but really it help all of us...

some mornings when i am really not coping it helps to see get up, get dressed ticked off - even if nothing else is ticked:o

i can pm you my list if you want - but you need to personalise it to your own standards
