I'm a bit new to this flying lark Dontknowanymore, so I take lots and lots of notice of what folks say on here (especially when it comes to NOT putting my make up before I do any flying  ) and I keep tweaking my basic system, finding out what works for ME and what doesn't, and picking up hints and lots and lots of encouragement from everyone along the way.

My two tips for what it's worth from a newbie.

First, start small - everyone will come along and say "baby steps, baby steps" - and you need to listen. Looking around a room/the house and seeing mess everywhere, just makes you feel overwhelmed. Do something little and often, using Pigpen's list as either a complete rule book, or a gentle guide, will help you take one step forward far faster than saying "right, this week I am doing everything".

Secondly, I've started a notebook - just a scrappy shorthand book that was lying around - page to a day - and in it I write what I am going to do each day (well, if OH does it, it still counts!) - these are my must haves - so emptying the DW and WM count, making dinner, sorting out the dogs ........ I should S&S the kitchen floor every day, but don't - it's not on my list, but may be one someone elses "must do" - whatever you need to do - tick against each one reminds me that a day when I feel I have done nothing, I have actually done something. To that I add my weekly "to do's" - so Thursday I run around emptying bins, 'cause Friday is bin day and it irks me if I haven't emptied them all. Friday or Saturday I change the bed - I have an obsession about changing it weekly, other people don't. On to that I can, hopefully, add something from Pigpen's list - or not - as long as I fly somewhere every day, I am hoping these lovely Flyladies will encourage me to do more!

Just remember "baby steps, baby steps". :)

Laying out clothes for the three youngest is a life saver. I usually do it when the LO's are in the bath. It's much better to realise at 7pm that you need to wash school uniform than at 8.15 in the morning.

I have been washing and ironing like a demented laundry maid today. I have to get everything straight for next weekend. I'm going to wash MTW's school uniform on Wednesday night and iron it on Thursday then they will have clothes for Monday morning.

Silver car has been put on Ebay by DH (on my account). Not the best timing as it will finish when we are travelling home next week. I really, really, really hope it sells.

DH and I danced around the kitchen yesterday when there was a result in the Man U v Arsenal match much to the amazement of the boys. We are both so excited about our weekend away:D.

    Evening all :D

Not done much flying this week, but the house is looking okay, so I might be able to do an major catch up tomorrow which will cover next weeks list depending on how I feel after the dentists.

I've been out today making a delivery and then I went to see Johanne while DD was out with her dad ;) By the time I got back and got the WM on DD was home again  No idea where today has gone at all. But I set DD too and she's vacuumed the livingroom & kitchen then "mopped" the kitchen while I dealt with laundry:D

    Personal:
    • Washing up - almost done. Just a couple of bits.
    • OU - Read companion

Wash away and mouldy black bits and furry webs
Polish up the taps so they shine!
    Level Three

Scrub down the paintwork and radiators.. back and front!
Clear and wipe window sills and frames and make the blinds/curtains nice and clean

Basically I was thinking of making my list of dailies which includes things like loading the machine etc, but thought well I could always load it at night to switch on in the morning.
I just have no organisation skills at all, I just never know where to start and end up wandering aimlessly around :(!

    hi dontknowanymore

i used to feel like this - i have kids 5 and 6 and a DH who works (gets under my feet) at home...as well as having sheep, pigs, chickens, goats turkeys and now ducks to feed...

i did try the american flylady and picked up a few things but never could keep up with that list and struggled to keep up with this OS list here..

what i did is make a list of things that HAVE to be done every day - a morning list and an after 3.3o list - which includes even the most basic things and as the kids have got older they now read it themselves and tick things off as they go...

so my after 3.30 list has things like empty book bags and kids to do homework, empty packed lunch boxes, eat tea, kids washed and to teeth cleaned and to bed, bread maker on (the kids now want to help do this as part of their going to bed routine - flour goes everywhere but then i brush the table and floor once they are in bed) i load the dishwasher and load the washing machine at night and do a load overnight to put out in the morning before the school run, uniform goes on bathroom radiator whilst the kids are cleaning teeth / bathing and they do now dress themselves in the morning as soon as they get up.. if i put the cereals and bowls on the table they help themselves in the morning too (sometimes backfires if they spill milk all over themselves and their clean uniforms they have put on before they came downstairs:eek:) but usually it is ok i

Morning routine is washed, teeth brushed, hair brushed, pj's under pillows and beds made, cups downstairs and put in DW (and now the kids do all this before coming down and rush to tick off on the list)

there are about 15 things on the morning list and about the same on the after 3.30 list... including a reminder for me to think about what is for dinner the next day on the 3.30 list (in case it needs to come out of freezer) and reminders to check the calendar and write the next days to do list...

I figure they are learning a routine themselves as they tick off the jobs as they go - they are printed on an A4 sheet in a plastic cover that is stuck on fridge. and DD now keeps making to do lists in her private diary... i would love to know what a 6 yr old has to do every day!

Now some of the jobs have become habit both for me and the kids - so now the essentials are getting done i find it easier to focus on the other tasks on the lists here.. some of the level ones are covered in my essentials list and so i am finding it much easier to cope as it all becomes more organised..

and the good thing is that now the kids nag DH and say - have you put your PJ's away?, have you made your bed?, have you put your cereal bowl in DW? so hopefully one day he might be housetrained..

so i would recommend a dailies list that was personalised to your lifestyle and your needs - some people NEED to mop every week, others NEED to change sheets every week, i would say just work out your own prioraties as to what YOU need done on a daily and weekly basis to make you feel happier, more in control of your house...

it does get easier - I used to be in total chaos and could not let anyone in as i was so ashamed - I even was worried about calling the emergency doctor out once as i thought they would call social services as the house was so bad - now I am only ashamed of one room - but others with different standards and needs might still be ashamed of my whole house - but i feel happier knowing that i am trying even if it is not perfect

Don't you have about 300 children though? I am surprised you manage to even do that,:T I only have 2 and find it a struggle! :o:rotfl:

I bet it takes you longer to do your 2 than it does me to do my 3 that I dress, feed and brush.. the older ones just need booting out the door and the baby just needs boob which takes about 20 minutes so I don't actually get out of bed until 8ish most days.. or I get up.. wake everyone, throw clothes at the 3 pinks and go for a wee then feed the baby then brush and dress (cos they never do it without me standing over them) and feed the pinks and kick them out.

Get out their clothes the night before.. if they are not in said clothes by a certain time they don't get fed.. If they are not wearing shoes I won't brush their hair. I am pure evil.. and there is nothing these 3 can do the older 5 haven't done before them.

I will take them to school, undressed, in pj's, shoeless, unbrushed and no pe bag.. I don't care they have ample warnng and time to get ready.

I follow the slimming world diet and use it as a food diary so what I am going to do is use the left hand page for flying and the right hand page for SW, ooh i'm gonna be organised soon! :j:D
