I just had a thought, if they send me an unmarked postal order anyone would be able to cash it, so they could cash it themselves and say that I had recieved it and cashed it.

Does that sound too far fetched or could that happen? I am only thinking this because they sound so dodgy.

If it is a cheque drawn on a UK bank the 2-4-6 system means it will be definitely bounced or cleared on day 6. Banks cannot come back to reclaim the money after that.

However it does sound very dodgy. 2-4-6 will not apply to a cheque from a foreign bank even if the payment is in pounds so maybe that is what you will get.
  • Thanks martindow, she lives in england and she wants to send an unmarked postal order, so all in all she is paying for the phone, offering £25 extra on top of that and then paying for a postal order. She is either very very generous or something else.
I'm still not sure what to do.:(

If it an uncrossed PO you will have cash in your hand and that's that.

If it's crossed it needs to be paid in like a cheque. I'm not sure if 2-4-6 applies to POs but no doubt someone will be along soon to let you know.

It's a lot more complicated to withdraw a postal order after sending. But it does take the same time to clear.

Can't help but think you'll end up signing for an empty envelope and then you've no proof you've not received an "unmarked PO". Maybe just cynical ol' me, though.

Signing for any payment (or empty envelope) is irrelevant anyway.

You don't need to prove you have/haven't been paid.

The onus is on the seller to prove they have paid.
