Does this sound dodgy to anyone?

Hi Everyone,

Someone who bid on a mobile I had listed asked before the listing ended if she could pay me direct by card, and I replyed that I can't do that because I am not a merchent.

She won the mobile about 3 days ago and I just heard from her again today and she said that she was waiting for her paypal account to be verified etc.

I said that's ok take all the time you need etc.

Now she has emailed this:

"thanx i appreciate that. if u wish send mme ur add and i have a postal cheque to u for tues. i will put £25 on it for u considering the wait inclusive of ur postage though. also it will be unmarked for instant cashing"

I won't accept the extra £25 of course but I don't want to deal with her now really.

Just wondered if this sounds dodgy at all to anyone, offering to pay more money etc, and we don't know if she means a cheque or postal order either.

She also has only 1 feedback from a seller in China for the same make mobile phone bought over a year ago.

Thanks in advance:)

Does sound dodgy as hell. All the scams involve paying you more than you want. However if its a cheque walk away. If its a PO then ask the post office BEFORE trying to cash it to confirm it's authenticity as its from an ebay sale, if they cash it you're in the clear and good to go.
  • Thanks very much JPS29, I'll ask her if it's a cheque or postal order and let her know I'll only accept a postal order. Thanks again:)

Yes. Dont even bother taking it any further.
  • Thanks very much gastronomix, if a paypal payment from them does turn up should I refund it incase they take the money back later or send the item do you think.

Can I just ignore them and do a second chance offer or something, I am not sure how to go about things now, advice please:)

    Wait and see what happens.

But if you do get notification from them they have paid by paypal, log in safely and check first.

You cannot just ignore them. If they haven't paid by day 4 you can open a NPB and then close it 4 days later. This will mean your final fees are refunded and the buyer is given a strike, along with the removal of his ability to leave you feedback.

    I've been Money Tipped!
It could be the cheque scam where they add on an amount "for your trouble" then they will ask you to post earlier than the cheque is cleared then cheque bounces
  • Thanks very much chancesare and go cat that's very good advice, I will ask her to pay by postal order I think and see what she says after that, and go from there, thanks again everyone:T
  • I just realised go cat that she said "unmarked for instant cashing", would that make a difference to anything do you think?:)

Thats what made me think it was a PO rather than cheque, otherwise I wouldnt bother with them
