Do mortgages apply to this?

Hi everyone,

My mum has a mortgage with Woolwich and they always heavily fine her if she doesn't have enough money to pay her monthly mortgage. She sometimes forgets to pay in the money on time. I've heard banks of closing accounts if you claim for your money back. Can they do this to mortgage accounts? Please help.

  • I don't think mortgages is covered. I'd warn her to be careful as mortgage is obviously on her home. if she forgets - does she pay over counter then?

  • Evening out there,

I would like someone to help answer whether this reclaiming can wk on mortgages? My mortgage company in Sept 2006 charged me fees for arrears management fee @ £75, failed direct debit @ £30 and interest @ £1.93, totalling £109.93. Sounds a bit small, but when u got kids all moneies count.

    What`s u guys advise?????????

    Big P:confused:
  • did you go into arrears enhoro?

have you contacted your lenders arrears dept?
  • Does anyone know whether the same principle applies to mortgage accounts with building societies?

Following a marital split, my ex stopped paying his agreed half the mortgage in lieu of child maintenance and the first I knew about it was six months later when they wrote to tell me. They had also been charging (and continued to charge) £40 per month "Arrears Administration Charges", adding to the Capital balance of the mortgage that I now pay alone. I have tentatively asked them for a refund and got the predictable although very polite "no". Should I persue this in the same way as I did with my bank? (After eight months of arguing I finally got a refund of about £1500 from them) At the end of the day the charge is being levied for them doing NOTHING at all, no letters no phone calls...NOTHING! They say it covers the cost of "monitoring" but they have never had to take any action as I have agreed and maintain my payments to them without fail.

Would anyone here pursue it further? Any advice??

    Thanks for reading :T

They have lumped a £30 fee onto my mortgage for an Unpaid Direct Debit, and I'm not happy with it. I know its only a small amount but Id still like to get it reversed. It's a week's shopping to me! better in my pocket.

This is the first time it's happened, and bar that one Ive always paid on time every month for over 3 years. I was surprised they wouldn't let me off such as small amount especially as its a "first-offence". My banks Abbey and Barclays usually let u off with the odd one no problem.

Anyway, the re-tried the direct debit again a few days later and it was paid ok. But apparently its costs them 30 quid. Or thats their fee anyway, whether it does or not.

I tried phoning them about it and get them to reverse it but they wont budge. Just kept saying sorry it's in out terms and conditions, clearly stated in the list of fees etc. blah blah.

I told them that I dont think it actually costs them £30 to deal with it and their system just retries for it a few days later.

    A bit annoyed.

Can I write to them, or are mortage fees/fines different to bank charges?

    Thanks in advance.
