My solicitor is off sick - we complete tomorrow!!

  • Well I've spoken to the assistant this morning (how long can one person be ill??!!), she said that everything is still on track for today but she has to liase with a senior partner.

I'm still not absolutely confident as the assistant always seems quite dippy but we'll see.................watch this space!
  • good luck...got my fingers crossed for you.

This exchanging and completing on the same day always sounds very stressful.
  • No completion today!

    Apparently we haven't even exchanged!

To say I'm fuming is an understatement.

Plus the bloomin assistant is denying ever speaking to me before even though I've spoken to her twice this morning, twice yesterday and numerous times last week. Each time she got the file out and confirmed that completion was still going ahead today. So a bare faced lie.

Is there anyway I can complain that won't just be a letter stuffed in a file somewhere?

Oh and by the way it was Roberts Solicitors (https://www.conveyancing-warehouse.com) doing the work.

that is unacceptable. i would march myself down to my solicitors office and ask to speak to this girl. i too would be fuming.

let us know how you get on.
  • Some people will probably say that if you go for the cheapest quote what more can you expect but I'd heard good things about them but it has been one thing after another and this is the final straw.

At the end of they day they've had the deposit money, they've had their fee and it's all just sat in their account rather than mine.
  • Yes it is! EB are the initials, don't know if you've got the same one.

We were meant to complete on Friday (24th) but we got it all pushed forward to Tuesday and the last I heard everything was going ahead.

I guess I'll be making a frantic phone call tomorrow morning!

Same one. Looks like we're in the same boat. The assistant says everything has been sent to my buyer's solicitor - who denies receiving it. Taking the day off work tomorrow to try and sort it out.

I guess I should have known what was coming when SDLT forms and draft contracts came with an offer price as the value of the previous purchase that had fell through. I could go on with other examples.

I think one of the original posts about online conveyancers said they are fine as long as there is nothing out of the ordinary. I wish I'd have got someone that I could have gone to see face to face - you live and learn.
  • Well the assistant truely messed it up.

OK so my actual solicitor is off sick but surely just by looking at the file someone would have seen that the contracts hadn't even been exchanged.

Luckily we've done the exchange today and complete on Friday. If it wasn't for me ringing I doubt if I would have even had a phone call to tell me.

I think I'll be sending a strongly worded letter after all of this.
  • Hi Lucy
Well done on the exchange. I hope all goes well on Friday! If the solicitor is still off sick I would keep at them on the phone to make sure they transfer the rest of the money ok.

EB is off ill until at least next MONDAY. They are delaing with my house purchace as well. when I phoned last week the assistant mentioned that they ahd a completion on the friday and EB would be back by then. That must have been you!!. sorry it didn't work out.

They have my searches but I need them to look at them and make sure I'm OK. We should get one of the outstanding things through next week then hope to exchange next week then complete the following Friday. Spoke to them today and the assistant couldn't get me off the phone quick enough. Will send an email tonight with my requirements and then track it.
  • How ill can one person be? She mentioned that she had a cold a week last Monday and then she was off from the Tuesday.

Surely there should be systems in place to take over the workload when someone is out of the office, obviously not.

The assistant has really annoyed me really. I'm sure she is being over worked but at the end of the day we are the paying client.

I'm sure that you will be fine but I'll let you know what happens after completion.
