Agghh!!
We are due to complete tomorrow. I called my solicitor last Wednesday to check that we were still on but she had gone home ill but her assistant assured me that everything was still on track.
I've called today only to be told that she is STILL ill and her assistant is on the phone!
I'm starting to panic now. What happens if she is still ill tomorrow, will someone else take over?
I knew it was all going to go wrong.

You'll be fine! Our solicitor was a real part-timer, but his assistant/secretary sorted everything for us, and in fact it was always her we turned to when things needed doing or chasing up!"I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0

Being a real worrier I can understand how you feel!!
BUT I am sure that sick or not she can instruct someone to do this for you and she WILL .... please belive me it will all be ok!!! :j 0 -
You will probably find that your solicitors caseload is being looked at whilst he/she is off - in my experience the secretary/assistant does most of the work anyway and the solicitor just does the overseeing (sorry that should read supervising!!!)- and you pay them for it!
Good luck with the exchange.0 -
this happened to me. there was someone looking over the caseload but they would not act on behalf of my solicitor. I was in the middle of selling, contract were getting signed and my solicitor went on holiday. no one would take the house selling to the next stage.
my advice is ring first thing in the morning.0 -
This isn't Conveyancing Warehouse by any chance is it? as my solicitor is also off sick.
I've been waiting for them to send information to my buyer's solicitor so that we can complete on Friday. Even though I'd been promised this would happen and therefore made the necessary arrangements, it now appears that it isn't going to as my buyer has a 7 day cooling off period after he signs.
Anyway, rant over. I'm sure you'll be fine. The not knowing is always the worst bit.
Good Luck!0 -

Eh? Are you due to complete or exchange?
I have never heard of a 7 day cooling off period, I was of the understanding that once you exchanged it was legally binding. Can you enlighten me?0 -
I believe because my buyer is borrowing more that 100% of the sale price (he's paid to purchase the freehold), there is a personal loan element that automatically has a 7-day cooling off period attached to it.
As there is no deposit, we need to exchange and complete on the same day.
Hope this helps.0 -
There should be a locum in the prctice who can take over the case and proces it through to completion, especilly if the competion date has been contractually set.0

Yes it is! EB are the initials, don't know if you've got the same one.
We were meant to complete on Friday (24th) but we got it all pushed forward to Tuesday and the last I heard everything was going ahead.
I guess I'll be making a frantic phone call tomorrow morning!0 -
