My best friend from my school days had twins in April. It was their christening a couple weeks ago but I was unable to make it - she'll be coming to visit me soon so I have made a mini hamper for her boy/girl twins!

I've ordered pull bows, so will add one once they arrive.

    1 x baby girl outfit = £5.00 (Primark)

  • As I'm now a poor poor mature student (who is doing an access course so doesn't have a student loan) I didn't think I'd be able to buy my friends and family gifts this Christmas, I was only joking with my mum last week that she’d be receiving pasta jewelry again! But after reading this thread and the retro sweets box thread; Christmas is back on! Thank you money savers :D

I have seen some 8 compartment boxes on the Maplins website for 99p each that I'm going to fill with sweets from the places suggested. And I'm going to make hampers for my mum and sister.

Sisters I'm going to fill with funky socks (5 pairs of bright colours for £2 from primark), nail varnish (£1.50 boots), coco butter (wilkos), showergel (Asda have a special on Original Source £1), body puff (39p wilkos), alcohol miniature, small mixer, candles, big bar of chocolate

Not sure what is going to go into mums yet, might split the socks up and get a pack of candles that can be split up, if I shop around I might be able to find BOGOF or offers on big bars of chocolate, they have some nice flannel PJ's in Primark for £4 - could do her a kind of bed time/relaxation hamper.

Also had decided on making all my cards this year to make it cheap, have already got a gold and silver pen, was going to buy some dark green and dark red paper A4 fold into half and half again and write a nice Christmas message on the front in the shape of a Christmas tree or star, then buy a pack of white or coloured envelopes.

Feel like a right cheapo, before student life I had a reasonably well paid job and although I’ve never been frivolous around Christmas, I was able to select nice gifts for my friends and family without having to worry too much about it. Although having said that I feel very inspired by all of your posts and feel that I can make some nice gifts for little expense
*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*

It's so lovely to hear that this thread from last year is still helping people!
The Retro sweet boxes I made went down a storm.
Have you tried Tesco couponing? It's saved me a fortune this Christmas.

I am sure it was on here that someone posted about getting all their tissue paper for baskets/hampers at Clarks the shoe shop. Well, I was in town today and was a bit scared in case they looked at me funny, but went in (my DDs stayed outside, said it was embarassing) and asked an assistant if they had any tissue paper I could have, that a friend of mine got some in another Clarks store, well you are all my friends aren't you?) she said she would have a look and came back with a carrier bag full of tissue paper!!!

So, together with "free" shopping with my 2 £10 vouchers thanks to Pigsback and my free tissue, I am well on my way to making gorgeous hampers.

Just wanted to say thanks a lot friends here on MSE!!! :money: :money:

p.s. found out it was Cullumpster who told us about Clarks!! Great idea, thanks

This thread has kept me up until after daft o'clock ;)

I came across the basket idea a while ago and then kinda lost heart HOWEVER this thread has reignited my insperation as the baskets and ideas are truely amazing.

The B&Q baskets (3 seagrass) which were reduced to £2 are now further reduced to 50p   so I am off to get myself some of those tomorrow along with the pink argos ones

One idea I did have was for a *cocktail* theme and wondered if anyone had any idea's of where to get a cheap ice bucket?

I wanna go shopping for all my stuff NOW - :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
