Hi Gang.......
Hadn't really thought of it as a hamper till now but when my sister was 40, I collected 39 bits & pieces, put them into a pretty plastic box & told her if she forgot how old she was to count them:D There was a little silver bracelet, handbag pack of tissues, funky nail files, nail poilish remover pads, key ring....you get the idea? It was a [STRIKE]million[/STRIKE] good few years ago so no photos I'm afraid:o
FunkyFarmGirl--I usually think about the person I would like to give the gift to, then find things that go with their personality. I guess it's because I've a very male-laden gift list compared to most on here, which makes it a little more complicated.
As to the wedding prezzie, what about a really nice photo frame, & where the pic will go you could put a 'baby-sitting' certificate so the newly-weds can have however many hours you care to donate, to have a bit of time to themselves. Or if the budget would allow, add a night in a local B&B while you have the kiddie-winks? A bottle of supermarket cava wouldn't go amiss either.....
For wrapping the hampers with sticky-out tops, how about pulling the cellophane tight round the base & just letting it frame the goodies, like they do with 'hand-tied' flwer arrangements?Perhaps not the best photo, but shows what I'm thinking of.

I was in Dunlem in Thurmaston at the weekend and they had cute white hand towels with chicks and hens on as part of their Easter stuff. (1.99 each I think. They also had teatowels with sheep and pigs on. They were all really nice. Teatowels were in the bins of random bargain items near the tills.
The big tescos had cockeral timers for £2 ish. And Wilkinsons/woolworths had little whisks in like this:

Also Marks and Spencers have got lots of nice chocolate animals in for Easter incl. Mr and Mrs Duck and I think a chocolate tractor.

They also do percy pig sweets.

Hope this helps0 -
I have made this nappy cake for a friend at work. It took a pack of 40 ish nappies. There are 2 bottles in the middle,1 lotion and 1 bath stuff. The teddy was 75p from charity shop and was brand new. The ribbon was from the haberdashry stall on the local market. I made it on a cake board. It was fiddly to make but not difficult and I'm really pleased with how it turned out in the end!0

Brilliant :T:T:T
Guess what I have a friends baby due in August :j
OK, here I go ...... million and one questions
What size nappies do I need (what size did you use)
Which way did you roll them, did you just stand them up and roll them in or did you open them and re-roll
How on earth did you keep them all standing up while you tied them
Sorry but what may seem obvious to some people isn't for me
Thanks0 -

I used size 2 nappies. I bought them from Sainsburys a week or so ago and they were on offer. Think possibly Tesco have a baby event on (or they did last week!) so may be a bargain there. I bought a pack of about approx 45 pampers.
I just took them out of the packet so they were in a rectangle and rolled them up like a swiss roll (if that makes sense!) Then I put an elastic band round it to keep it together. I bought a couple of bags of bands from wilkinsons for 40p I think. I basically rolled all the nappies and secured each one individually with its own band. Didn't take too long in front of the tv!
I put 2 bottles of baby lotion in the middle (79p from Tesco so you can get an idea of the size, think it was the smaller bottle). I fastened the 2 bottles together with another band then started putting the rolled up nappies around them. i put another (!) elastic band round the nappies to hold them in place as I put them around the bottles. I just kept doing it to make the different layers.
The whole thing is basically held together with elastic bands! And lots of them! I know this sounds complicated but it wasn't really. I will take some photos of it tomorrow before I wrap it so you can see how each layer looks and my rambling instructions might make more sense!0 -
Thanks Bec5670 I think you've explained really well, would love to see more photos.:A
Going shopping on Wednesday and Pampers has gone on the list along with elastic bands so I can start practising nappy rolling0 -

Wrapped
http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w75/vwcampervan/my-hampers020.jpgWell done :T I like the idea of using a ribbon on the lid - I've done baskets with lids on and I realise now that the lids look better with that added touch

The black crepe paper houses the most beautiful bookmark I have ever seen. I didnt want to unwrap it but this is what it looks like:
