Hoping you lovely OSers can help me. Thanks to a Mr A shop on Saturday, I have 2 packs of frying steak and 2 sirloin steaks that have a use by date of errm yesterday. I know I should have checked, but I was distracted when it was delivered and they didn't point the short end dates out.

I plan to cook the sirloins for dinner tonight, which leaves me with 2 packs of frying steak. My freezer can not fit anything else in there and OH is a use by date Nazi and will bin it if he finds it regardless of whether I say it's ok or not. (Left to my own devices I completely ignore dates so it's very annoying when he bins stuff that's perfectly ok).

Any ideas for stuff I can do with it to make it last longer and actually be a meal rather than landfill? I hate waste!!

I have a slow cooker if that's any help.

Oh I should also say that it's just me and OH, if he's hungry to feed.

If you have any freezer bags, just transfer the frying steak to them and you may be able to squeeze them in.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I've tried that, but it's honestly packed tighter than a misers wallet.

My parents live too far away and both their freezers are as full as mine (honestly, if the shops close down they'll be ok for life - can you tell where I get it from?) and I don't know the neighbours well enough to go to their door with a slab of meat, although it might be amusing just to see their faces.:rotfl::rotfl:

Ok, by freezer bagging and repacking the freezer I managed to fit one lot in there.

Now to find something to do with the other one.

I'm glad you managed to squeeze some in. :) This thread should help with the rest:

I'll add your thread to it later to keep the suggestions together.

Could you make a beef pie? cook the filling in the SC today/tonight and fill the pie tomorrow and brown the top in the oven. should keep in the fridge for a good few days after that

When were you planning on eating it and what meal did you have in mind?

If I find myself in this situation, I would usually prepare the meal and save it in the fridge for a couple of days until needed. By cooking it, you effectively extend its fridge life.

I would slowcook the pack you have left, it will then keep for about 3 days just in the fridge.

Also I would complain about the short date, you may get a refund or good will gesture.
