Did you move into your house before or after the bus-stop was put where it is now?

You have to contact your local authority or public transport authority. This could be the council or in some areas another body, Tyne and Wear is Nexus, London TfL.

Bare in mind this is not a simple thing to do, you have to have a reason and a suitable location in mind.

If you dig it up and move it 3 foot every week they will probably never notice ;)
  • Is there a good (non-NIMBY) reason why you want the bus stop moved? It will be in the public highway.

yes the bus stop was there prior to moving into the house but we bought the house of plans and the plans stated the house would be further back then it actually is!

With regards to the reasons behind wanting the bus stop moved:

The bus stop is only five yards from the front of our property, so anyone at the bus stop can see directly into our property.

Also the privacy problems caused by double decker buses, as individuals can see directly into the property, via the kitchen and front master bedroom.

Security fears this presents for my family, due to people using the bus stop as a meeting / gathering point and possibility of vandalism / graffiti on the bus stop which could spread to our property or the external walls.

The noise issues coming from the bus stop throughout the day and evening, especially on a weekend, this is from the increased footfall directly in front of the property, the engine noise of the buses, braking noise of the buses and the door noise from the buses.

The excessive pollution fears coming from the buses as they stop and start at the stop, also buses that remain stationery at the stop with the engine running for some time.

With the bus stop and shelter being located directly outside the property, it is causing great distress to both me and my partner as we will find it difficult to use the kitchen which is located at the front of the house and also the front bedroom due to all the disruption that is caused and intrusion of our privacy. We feel that we won't be allowed to enjoy the freedom and enjoyment of our own home.

Also there is another bus stop and shelter which is located on the same road, approximately 30 yards further down the road and this offers the exact same services that the bus stop and shelter offers that is directly outside our property, is there really a need for two bus stops, especially when one is in a more suitable location, as it is away from existing properties and closer to the current factories and railway station that is in operation, the second bus stop is also in a more convenient location to access the newly created car park?

Also I understand when the bus stop and shelter was originally built it served a purpose to help the workers in the then present factories get to and from work, since the factories are no longer present, there is no need for the bus stop as the area has changed and the property was not built when the bus stop and shelter was erected.

    Net curtains?

Didn't you notice the bus stop when you viewed the property?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Not a problem then, no bus passengers, the buses will not stop there.

Is there enough space to want to create 'off-road parking' at the front of your property?. If so, put in an application for a dropped kerb an bingo, the bus stop will have to be re-located.

Either that, or get a large orange tarporlin bag with 'Stop no longer in use' on it and place it over the bus stop.

Why did you buy a house with a bus stop out front if you don't like your privacy invaded?
