Eating in Edinburgh

Will try out Wellington's, I know where it is, but just not been there. Have been to eteaket and shortly going again for one of their afternoon teas - yum yum
Have 20+ reviews to write up, just finding the time and downloading photos etc, don't think it would work aswell without them.
Sicilian Pastry shop in Leith is best value and most delicious, but not for sitting in.
The ice cream at Geraldo Alonzi's really is THE best in the world - nothing comes close. Once you've tasted it, there's no going back. I grew up 10 metres from there, but always go back for some.
Can't stand Costa or Starbucks and it annoys me to see tourists fill these places up when they could be trying out local gems !****************************0 -
Hi my niece and her friends (students) will be in Edinburgh next week end on a Hen Party, can anyone recommend any restaurants / pubs for eating that are not too expensive.
Thanks

Never even heard of the ice-cream newsagent in Comely Bank and I live nearby - will be trying that one out soon as I am a big ice-cream fan.
Keep meaning to try the Bakehouse and the Tea Tree place sounds great (a few people have recommended it to me) although the name reminds me of that potent australian essential oil - definately not something you would want to drink!
Have you tried Wellington's coffee (tiny but great coffee) [corner of Hanover and George Street] and eteaket (another good tea shop with a terrible name!) [Frederick Street] - those are two of my favourites on this side of town / near Princes street, when I fancy a tea or coffee and a bite. I wish more people would support the good local places rather than just going to Costa or Starbucks all the time...
Thanks for recommending Wellington's! :T We've just been to Edinburgh and had a wonderful coffee in there. Enjoyed it so much we went back the next morning and had coffee and a scone for breakfast. Yummy!Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

Thanks to all the girls in the Cross Stitch Cafe! You're all fantastic! :A0 -
Loopy Lorna's in Morningside is my favourite tea house in Edinburgh. I was in eTeaket and the tea and cakes were great but the service was ATROCIOUS! - http://www.loopylornas.com/
Tapa in Leith is great - they do a lunch for two people that includes 6 tapas, bread and a salad for £10 (total - not each) from 12 - 5pm - http://www.tapaedinburgh.co.uk/
Just tried Amore Dogs on Hanover Street - great simple Italian food and not pricey along the same lines as The Dogs next door does for simple British food (which recently won a Bib Gourmand - the michelin for reasonable priced food).
Same owner although a word of warning - he is quite in-your-face and brisk when he works front of house which some people find off putting (not me - I think he is great - a real character).

update: The Dogs in opening up a bar underneath the existing premises called Under Dogs and is planning and a fish resteraunt called Sea Dogs! Can't wait!!0 -
Hi does anyone know a good place to eat that's preferably near the playhouse? We are going to watch the new queen musical and looking for somewhere to have a good meal afterwards (going in the afternoon). I prefer somewhere that isn't too busy or cramped (will be eating around 6ish on a Wednesday).0

If you are going for dinner after the matinee show, then you will qualify for all the good theatre deals around town (order by 7ish)
Depends what you are after but the

or try www.5pm.co.uk for good deals****************************0 -
