We bought a Toshiba laptop about 5 years ago from Currys. At the time we took out their coverplan. The computer malfunctioned but we phoned them and they said we were not covered. Last time a company was pretty much trying to force feed me a cover plan I did the sums right in front of the sales bod.

It worked out that 27 months of premiums not paid would buy me a replacement brand new - so I decided to save my money in a pot and take a chance. Twelve years later I gave away the item (TV) away on Freegle, still working, because I wanted an upgrade.

Obviously goods vary in cost, and cover plans too... so it's worth doing the sums first - even if you have to take your shoes and sock off to do it
